Hinch ejected because umpire felt he didn't throw back to pitcher quickly

"Apparently, after a close pitch to (Todd) Helton, Larry thought A.J. held the ball too long," said Manager Alan Trammell. "I don't agree with that, but that's what it was."

In other words, Young felt that Hinch showed him up.

Hinch had been ejected only one other time in five previous years in the majors -- for breaking his bat on the ground as a reaction to a call he didn't like. As a catcher, though, he has always prided himself for having a good relationship with umpires.

But that didn't keep him from getting ejected by Young in the eighth inning.

"I didn't feel I did anything that warranted an ejection," Hinch said. "I was surprised. I've never intentionally tried to show anyone up."
