New York-New York President Felix Rappaport played David Letterman Wednesday in a speech at the International Hotel and Restaurant Show by listing his top 10 trends of Las Vegas.

Rappaport's top 10 trends and his explanations for them are:

"Recovery from 9-11":

Las Vegas recovered more quickly and maintained business levels better than other destinations, and acted rapidly to minimize future security concerns.

"Getting 'em here":

McCarran International Airport's planned $90 million, 11-gate expansion and the Las Vegas monorail, now under construction, will make it easier for tourists to get to the Strip and to get around once they get there.

"Marketing initiatives":

Company wide slot clubs as well as employment and contracting diversity programs send a positive message about the casino business.

"Technology rules":

Explosive growth in Internet bookings, coinless slots and the use of yield rate management to maximize hotel room revenue.

"Revenue streams have become rivers":

Booming upscale restaurants, golf and wedding packages, world-class shopping, conventions and hotel rooms have all become significant revenue drivers.

"If I like staying here, why not live here?”:

Many new time share and upscale condominiums allow more people to live near the Strip corridor.

Entertainment explosion":

Popular shows like the "Cirque du Soleil," Celine Dion and her 4,000-seat theater and Broadway show "Mama Mia"; the dynamic growth of hip nightclubs and lounges; and the city's network of arenas capable of hosting popular events are boosting entertainment venues.

"Other jurisdictions":

Tribal casinos have hurt other markets much more than they've hurt Las Vegas; Las Vegas-based companies tap new business with racinos, the new Borgata megaresort slated to open next month in Atlantic City, and overseas casino opportunities.

"Same-store expansion":

Adding new hotel towers to add room inventory.

"The next wave":

Steve Wynn's $2 billion megaresort slated to open in 2005 and will continue to bring new people to Las Vegas.
