A congressman who wants to prohibit Nevada sportsbooks from taking bets on college games said Wednesday he does not expect his bill to gain momentum from this week's overwhelming vote in the House against Internet gambling.
Rep. Tom Osborne, R-Neb., said he does not see a strong connection between Internet gambling and his measure to ban betting on amateur sports events. The House voted 319-104 Tuesday to outlaw payments by credit cards, checks and electronic fund transfers for offshore online wagers.

Osborne, who coached three national championship football teams at the University of Nebraska, acknowledged his bill has made little progress since being introduced. 'My experience as a coach would hardly let me do anything but support this legislation,' he said. 'But you know, I think very frankly, the gambling industry has made a lot of (financial) contributions in key places and it's kind of hard to get this thing going.'

I love these idiots who go around pretending that there's something *special* about collegiate athletics. I'm sure that this is just about enough to get me crucified by every other poster on here, but what a ludicrous waste of resources college sports are -- wtf does football have to do with getting aneducation, the ostensible reason for a college to exist?

Don't STOP putting pressure on these politicians just because one bill passed in the House..it still has to go to the Senate and will probably be changed and/or killed there.

All the Average Citizen can do is Visit, Call and Email your Local reps in your area.

***If you state in your letter you DO NOT AGREE and OPPOSE the views of Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner and House Democrats and House Republicans who oppose an outright ban on online gambling.*** it might be the right kind of PRESSURE

Here is the site you need to go to to Tell your Representative and Senators to oppose H.R. 21 and S. 627, the so-called Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Acts! Or any NEW bill that tries to ban Online Gambling. Fill out the form on this page to take action on this important issue (your privacy will be protected) http://www.profreedom.com/
