Just my honest opinion Sir is that Neteller would be up front and advise all members of new rules before just ceasing. There is always mail though. That should be no problem.

Take care

Come on, it won't be passed until September at the earliest, if at all. Even then transferring money is not illegal. It is true, Neteller would do well diversifying a bit, but how can that happen when Ebay buys out Pay Pal and then shuts down every other method of transfer basically. Bottom line is if your money is in Neteller you will get it unless Neteller goes under. It won't be the law blocking your money and I highly doubt Neteller would stop being involved in the business because that is about all they do and they do it well.

Still the ignorance stuns me. People start reading these bills, start thinking about them as well. Don't just be the normal fool who makes a knee jerk reaction to the news. The sad thing is I bet at least 75% of the people that regularly post on here still don't know exactly what the law says and what it covers. They are simply assuming the worst, or in the minority saying "screw them, I always get down no matter what".

When Western Union took it upon themselves to begin denying Gambling Transactions, the books simply found a way around it. The books stopped using quick collect and just had us send the money or recieve the money from a person.

This situation could easily be handled the same way. Instead of making your Netteller withdrawaals and deposits to say "Canbet Bookmakers LMTD.", Canbet will have one of their people, say John Smith send and recieve the money. How would anyone ever know the Netteller transaction is gambling related if you are simply sending the Netteller Deposit to John Smith and then the book will credit your account after verifying the money was sent.

Sure it would be illegal if you get caught, but the bill has no teeth yet, and there is no way the U.S. gov't can incarcerate the millions of people who gamble. Hell, they cant even keep real criminals locked up with the lack of prison facilities.

Stevie I have to be honest with you if you are gambling and have to hope to get paid from a sportsbook that owes you to "put food on the table" you may have a problem.

As usual Wild Bill is right on with his post.

Wildbill, Great Job. I want you to know that your previous posts are right on the money about how to influence legislation (I have some personal experience with this, but we will leave it at that). However, I have another suggestion that will work well.

Find a Senator on the Committee that is now considering the legislation. It needs to be one who is up for election and faces serious competition. My suggestion would be a Republican since they have more influence. You inform that Senator of your position and ask him for suport in stopping this legislation. If he says "no", you then arrange for everyone interested in this legislation to pool money in an effort to remove that one senator. When you go back to him in a month and say, " We now have $1 million, will you consider our position" he will listen. Once he is in the bag you move on to the next senator. The only way these guys listen is to threaten their political livlihood. The only way to do that is with considerable sums of money. I can imagine that if this becomes law, the total effects will be far greater than $1 Million. IF the large books can put together this type of money and go senator-to-senator you can make a difference. If you try to spread your resources it will not work. The key is to make each one of these guys think that you have chosen them as the number one target. And that you are willing to spend $1 Million to remove them from office. I can assure you this bill is not that important to them.
quote:
Originally posted by WildBill:

I will always get down, no matter what. If I had been stranded on that desert island like Tom Hanks in Cast Away, I still would have found a way to get money to an offshore book and get a payout.

This internet gaming ban nonsense is a total non-issue. Shakespeare wrote a play about it many years ago. It was titled "Much Ado About Nothing".

Missing from Wild Bill’s post is the fact that Neteller will likely have to close its US bank accounts. For example, lets assume Leaches Bill becomes law. A US citizen has $50,000 in various offshore accounts and fails to get this money out before the law comes into effect. Neteller has been required to close all its US bank accounts and banks refuse to do transfers to or from Neteller. Bank wires are prohibited. So how does Mr. US citizen convert his offshore accounts to US dollars? A check drawn on a foreign bank? Can one just cash one of those? I’ve never tried to cash a check drawn from a foreign bank.

Western Union will always be a transfer method when all the others are long gone. Put simply, Western Union's whole existence is for transfering money, and the govt. will not be able to stop "person to person" money transfers unless they completely shut down WU, which isnt realistic.

Hache Man, I agree. But...let's assume the Leach Bill has become law. Over a period of a month you win 20K. How would you go about withdrawing this money? I don't believe W/U is an option here, right?

If a bill is passed, and Neteller and other common online transfer methods are ceased by govt, western union should still be the out. Just cause Neteller, etc. stops transferring our funds doesnt mean all of the books are just going to close shop. Our accounts will remain open...........

Hache Man, this has never been an issue.

How would 'YOU' go about getting 20K out of your sportsbook...if the Leach Bill becomes law?

Sue, whatever option the book suggested available at the time. I only added the "Our accounts will remain open" because some people talk as if a bill is passed, and Neteller and others are put on hold, that our money in our accounts would just "disappear", as if there were no way possible anymore to retrieve it.

Sueton,

I believe that you would not be able to get the $20,000 all at once through Western Union. You will have to take $3,000 a day for a week to get it all. This will be an amazing expense, Western Union isn't cheap. But this is also the worst case scenario, it will not come to this. This is just to reassure everyone no matter what happens they can still get their money so long as it isnt at NAB.

Does Neteller even have US bank accounts? Its not necessary, you can get a US dollar account just about anywhere in the world. Every bank in Canada offers accounts in US dollars if you ask for one. Currency is traded on big scale transactions, Neteller can easily survive without a US account. The only thing they do is have their USD account wherever send the ACH transactions. Its real easy to avoid having any connections to the US if one chooses to.
