we need to find a way to exploit the fact that the politicians don't like the fact that all this money billions of dollars is not being used for the US economy. It is basically just leaving the country. Its not about the health of the US citizens that the politicians care about its the money that they are not benefiting from.
If we can find a way to make them look like greedy and money hungry a*ses then maybe we could get a more of a public freedom push.

Your congressman or rep won't help you a bit, i emailed and called my rep and he STILL voted for the bill yesterday.

The last 2 posts are absolutely correct. Nothing the gambler will say will have one iota of affect at this point, the only hope realistically are, as usual, the lobbyists for interests that have a lot of money and influence and would be negatively affected by this bill, like the horse-racing industry.
call your senators, tell them that a family member just spent the last 3 years kicking the habit of gambling on horses.

Better yet, create a pseudonym and make up a story telling him/her that you are flipping them the bird for voting for it and WILL CONTINUE TO BET OFFSHORE WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT! I wrote one awhile back talking about how come all I ever hear are sob stories, that I helped put a cousin through college with my winnings, someone who now is a writer for a pretty good sized newspaper. Without offshore wagering my cousin would probably be a waitress at this time. Point being that many get entertainment and a few even get positive benefit from the activity, its not all a sure ticket to the poor house for everyone that tries.
Quite frankly there is nothing you can do. While in DC I talked with a lobbyist to 5 members and it turns out 4 voted yes, the 5th voted no and told us he would and tried to give us ideas on how to sway others. He told us point blank the problem was image, that if someone fights saying they want the right to gamble that isn't the ticket because state governments have always claimed jurisdiction over the right of gambling within its borders. Its not for you to decide basically was the argument. Agree with that or not, bottom line is that is how these people think. You aren't going to get them onto your playing field, you have to go onto theirs. Writing them angry letters or even nice letters saying you think its not right for them to ban the activity just doesn't sway anyone on the issue. That is reality. A further reality is that right now the lobbyists and anyone trying to get their word in needs to focus in on that criminal enforcement part of the bill. The lame procedural rules used by the House to back into criminal penalties is a joke. Without them, this basically is the Congress saying we don't like offshore gambling, if you are a good American you won't do it. End of story. If they suddenly decided to change this in the Senate and then Oxley and Bachus get a major role in the reconciliation of it this bill could become a big mess or it could go out with a simple whimper, almost a statement not a law. Most in the fight really don't know what to expect anymore, a ton of deals were made behind closed doors and what happens in the Senate really is anyones guess. They went into yesterday with the situation basically no one had a passable choice of legislation and ended the day of horse trading with a passage of the lowest common denominator, a gutless bill. So don't even try to predict what happens next is the story here.

It may even be too late for that. But that is the only probable way to get any kind of movement in support of killing this type of legislation.
