Little NASA is moving their operations to Kahnawake Indian Reservation, Canada. More books likely to follow going to Panama.

Looks to me players are more worried than Books about this situation.

Books that have paid the license have NOTHING to worry about.

The CR government looked for a way to obtain more income and found in this industry a good possibility and took it.

Can't agree with you JJ, "very unsafe"...don't think so...why would it be?, or for who?

Costa Rica's no bargain, anymore.

IMO, there are just way too many books in CR now.

If some books do leave for whatever reasons, there will be certainly less strains on the trained labor pool, etc., which certainly should help control cost increases this year for the majority who elect to stay.

On the crime scene, there has definately been an increase in robbery and home invasions crimes there, so perhaps a move would would make some books feel 'safer'.

Seems like there is a kinda 'love - hate' feeling between the Ticos twards the Gringos.

We love your money, but hate working for you thing.

Interesting article about it on Gambling911.com.

Why is Costa Rica considered unsafe?

I don't think this license we paid for really does anything for us. Just another way for the CR Government to make some cash. I hope all the books leave entirely.

Then when CR wonders where all the money went they can ask themselves why they didn't take better care of the Sportsbooks.

It's amazing how much prices have gone up in this country.

It depends on the size of the book. Ours was 63k only because we are with MVP and Legendz. If we were split up it I think it would have cost more in total.

The tax is not the problem, although it is an added expense. It just that it does nothing for you. It doesn't make the banking, lease prices, payroll costs, or anything else any easier. IMO

I fully agree with gotbookie. It's just a way for the CR government to get some free money. It doesn't do anything for the books nor the player.

Dont get me wrong. There are certain things I love about CR. However, the are definately some security issues here. Just the driving is crazy. There are basically no laws here regarding drunk driving. Justin and I were in an accident last year. Both cars, and everyone in them- wasted. I broke my damn arm. Luckily Justin was only bruised up, and no one died.

BHB,

That's the reason I don't recommend people playing with books in CR. There are no laws in that country.

I can relate to that to some extent. It would be better put to say, "choose wisely what books you play with in CR". There are several great books to choose from in CR. However you are right, it is possible for dirtbag books to open up. You have to be cautious. Then again, as the player you have to be "cautious" no matter where they are located.

CR get Free Money?

While I'm not a big fan of CR anymore, why do you guys think you're entitled to a free roll by being there?

You guys don't pay any income taxes on profits, so why shouldn't the govt there charge a small tax or license fee?

If you argue because you provide jobs, remember, you could provide the jobs elsewhere and end up in the can, or be forced to payoff some general somewhere else.

Gove't there doesn't shake anyone down, except when the migra comes around every now and then..

You cant say that Sportsbooks havent made this country rich. Look behond payroll, look at telecommunications, look at leases and real estate prices. You are right, we would have to hire people no matter where we are, and in some places we might wind up in jail for bookmaking. But that doesnt change what this industry has done for CR.

There are only two questions here-

Have Sportsbooks brought tens or even hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars to CR?

Is the CR Government greedy?

The license fee is nothing more than "free money" for the CR government. If it isnt, then tell me what they are really providing us with in return. (different than what they have in the past)

Tell me what government isn't greedy? Many countries have run the books out before. So far CR is doing better than many have in the past.

There aren't many places where you can set up a business that can make good money without paying around 50k in taxes. They just don't exist. Its not just greed, its the theory that other businesses are there providing jobs and making money, yet paying some of it anyways. If you function in an economy, you just have to expect taxes like that, fair or not. After all look at the rich people in the US. You think the CEO's making millions and paying taxes on that get value for their contribution to the government? Sure they have loopholes and don't quite pay what some think they should, but how many of them use the services the government pays for with their tax dollars? Its not even close, the poor get a much better deal than the rich. Think of it that way when you are a book, you pay more than you think you get value for, but that is the nature of taxation.

I see your point. It still seems like they are taking more and not giving more. And yes Gringo, most governments are greedy, I agree. That still doesn't make it right. I don't believe CR is the best choice right now for books. There are many other countries that are willing to do business and will go out of their way to accomodate. JMHO

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if the casino's in Vegas and Atlantic City pay any taxes? Anyone know?

Why should there be a free ride in CR and not one anywhere else?
