Good points all around in that all of the books need to have a contingency plan; but, the pullout of Costa Rica as I hear it, is not near as bad as a forum reader would think. I heard up here that 13 to 20 books were pulling up roots and going to Panama. When you look at it 5 of them are owned by xxxx, so it makes sense that he would move his entire operation with the guarantee that he pays their(Panama's) $40k fee only once.
And, about the recent consolidations of operations by a few; maybe they are just tightening the bottom line. I remember when I had my sheets in Margarita...I don't want that again. I feel just fine with Costa Rica now that some of the high profile places have set their sights for other ground. As many posters have said, it's not the location, it is the honor of the owners and the people they hire that you must put your trust in. I got burned on a sheet in Curacao at one of the posters favorites, and got killed in Margarita several years back at a place every damn watchdog and forum had on the 'must have' list, but I have yet to be affected at all by happenings in Costa Rica.
Business is business gentlemen, and only go into this venture if: (1) your book(s) treat you well, (2) your book(s) treat you well, and, (3) ad naseum, they must treat you well may you be gambler, a practicioner of this sport of kings, or if you simply need a good out.
Bottom line gents, don't sweat the location, find someone you trust and like. If you can't get a contact on the phone when you want, or can't get a call back, then go elsewhere!
