Probably when he got off the DL he couldn't catch up to the balls and instead of using a lighter bat to get his bat speed back he did the stupid thing of corking his bat !

all i know is, the guy has hit 50 or more four years in a row, then mlb says its gonna start testing for steriods...he gets caught with a corked bat, and he has 6 homeruns in 156 at bats so far this year. coincidence???

Why do you think that hitting 30% in baseball is a great accomplishment ?

He won't be hitting 50 HR's this year !

It's tough enough to do it when you're healthy ALL year long let alone when you are hurt !

He will however finish between 35-40 HR's I believe

I agree with the other guys that the main reason for his slump is getting beaned in the head. The were even talking about that before the corked bat incident.
The only way it will look really bad for Sosa regarding the cork is if all of sudden he is still hitting a lot of fly balls that are dying at the warning track instead of going out. Doesn't seem to be the case so far.

Yeah, I'd say has more to do with the head beaning and also coming off the toe injury and rust. Cut the guy some slack. If you think his past HR's have to do with anything other than talent then you are a fool. Steroids and even corked bats don't help you make contact. Sammy never needed any extra power. I do think his balance has looked a little off ever since he was hit in the head. That kinda stuff can rewire brains and change everything. It's a very delicate balance.

d2bets, i know he got hit in the head. i also know that steroids and a corked bat don't help you make contact. but if you think they don't help you hit homeruns, you're a fool. does the fact that the air is thin help the hitters in colorado? the stats say it does. does the thin air in colorado help the hitters make contact? i'd say not.
