Here's an idea for any hard-up Internet gambling site looking for an extra thing to book this summer. How about odds on ABC's new Monday Night Football sideline reporter?

Melissa Stark is pregnant and said she is unlikely to work this coming season.

One person supposedly under consideration to fill-in for Stark is Joumana Kidd, wife of Jason Kidd.

What are her qualifications? If you've seen her then there's no reason to answer that question.

Chances are good you'll be able to spot her a few hundred times during the NBA finals. She'll be with her four-year-old son, T.J., who doubles as her prop. Joumana already has said she wants the sideline job.

"T.J. was born during a Monday night football game," she was quoted as saying. "So it's always been special to us."

Somebody page Bob Ryan. Andy Rooney may also have a thing or two to say about this. He didn't seem real happy about Stark, and she was a competent reporter.

When it comes to being a sideline reporter for ABC, being able to speak English isn't a requirement. People are still trying to figure out what Eric Dickerson was saying.

Having big breasts doesn't hurt either, which makes Mrs. Kidd a formidable contender.

One of the most hypocritical displays in sports occurs whenever Jason Kidd gets ready to shoot a free throw. That's when he tenderly blows a kiss to Joumana from the fingers he used to bash her.

Picture this season's first Monday night game, Tampa Bay at Philadelphia. Al Michaels says, "Now let's go on the field to Joumana."

There's Joumana on the sidelines holding little T.J. on a leash while saying, "Wow, Al, Donovan McNabb really took a shot to the face."

On the one hand, we don't need a football maven to ask the losing coach at halftime what he has to do to get his team ready for the second half, or to say an injured player is going in for X-rays.

But when it comes to Monday Night Football, people actually care about the sideline reporter. The person better be famous or good looking. If the person happens to be a good reporter, that's an added bonus.

Considering some of ABC's recent Monday Night Football on-air talent, don't be surprised if Cindy Margolis, Halle Berry, Dexter Manley, Jenna Jameson, Steven Wright and Traci Lords are among the candidates for sideline reporter.
