I do not like. Got 2 $25 dollar fines in last 7 months for not wearing in the city. I was stopped for that reason only both times.

Silly IMO.

I like CR's seat belt law.Only people required to wear them are children and the mentally handicapped. So obviously I have to wear one.

Do the cops require the drivers to give them proof that they're retarded or will they take your word for it.

Although I do NOT agree that there should be a law MANDATING seatbelt usage...

HOWEVER…

You MUST ALWAYS wear your seat-belt!

A seatbelt is a safety device that assists in preventing serious injury and death for those participating in the world’s deadliest sport…motor vehicle transportation.

Seat-belt LAWS were initially advocated and sponsored by the INSURANCE industry to reduce payment costs associated with rising medical claims, while attempting to reduce escalating insurance premiums...to SAVE everyone MONEY. An easy sell, when you consider that such would also SAVE LIVES!

Seatbelt laws placed upon motor vehicle drivers and passengers has only been one-step in attempting to assure one’s safety as seen by the numerous additional laws placed upon the motor vehicle manufacturing Industry to meet or exceed safety crash standards, while implementing additional safety devices such as airbags.

I have personally been involved in deadly automobile accidents by which the wearing of a seatbelt could not only have prevented injury, but death. It should not take the traumatic event of watching a loved one die upon the road or seeing the mangled, bloody, noseless, toothless face of person who just kissed a windshield to understand that it could have been YOU who decided to rebel against a law which was only trying to help.

We should be thankful such laws are implemented for the stupid who need them.

Be SMART, be SAFE…LIFE is too precious not to buckle-up…do YOU really need a law to tell YOU that?

I think some people could have their ignorance awakened by just spending some early morning hours of a weekend in the emergency room of a hospital...

...listening to the agonizing screams of of those who made the "intelligent" decision of not wearing their seatbelt that one time.

Perhaps something teenagers should experience before being issued a drivers license?

Personally, I think this law is used to raise money on fines ...

... but it serves a great purpose (dunno why anyone wouldn't buckle up anyways, but still), so no complaints here.

just the increase of enforcement, try to raise money to buy more vehicles for themselves but they 're ficking stupid that they are literally trying to take advantage of the innocent drivers and not doing the job to get the criminals off the street !!

Note: If you're drinking or speeding make sure to wear the damn seat belt to reduce the risk paying for a huge lesson !!

I am all for people wearing seatbelts but I as an adult am intelligent enough to make my own decisions.Children and teenagers it should be mandatory for.I have a feeling this is more about generating ticket revenue than concern for public safety.I am on the roads everyday and I see lots of atrocious driving habits that lead to accidents. Not wearing a seatbelt doesn't cause accidents. Drinking and speeding do.

This thread caught my eye so I will post what I saw last night which was very horrible which cost two lives.
There was a very bad wreck on the highway so I stopped my car to take a look to see what had happened. There was this guy in a vw jetta that hit a wrecker in the back then went up on top of the dividing wall that separates east and west traffic. Took a closer look to see if the guy that was in the passenger seat had his seat belt on & saw that he did have it on but it still did not save him from his death. I personally saw the cornor cut it off to get him from out of the car. Then as the wreckers were finsishing up clearing the wreck. This other car comes hauling ass and nails the other wrecker in the back which kills another person. How freaky two different wrecks with wreckers same result in death at the same place. The moral of this real life story is that the cars were speeding too much and it cost these people their lifes because these people driving decided to speed on the highway. Yeah the seatbelt may save you sometimes but then again if your going to fast it wont help you. Wear your seatbelt always anyways.. it just may save your life!!! When you see it happen in front of your face you think it could be you next..

The true idiots in topics like this are the ones who seem to know whats best for everyone else and use isolated incidents and statistics to support their beliefs. I believe living in America entitles me to freedom of choice and as long as that choice doesnt hurt anyone else Ill continue to do so whether the law states its illegal or not. And if your going to use the word, ignorant, make sure the people you are directing this word toward are truly (lacking education or knowledge, or compreshension). Otherwise you might be ignorant for not comprehending my position, even though I choose to IGNORE yours from a knowledgeable standpoint.

We might not like it at all most times, but it's better than some close loved one damming the fact we we're too stubborn or lazy to put it on.

I agree with the law. Hell I never wear a belt and once and a while down here you REALLY need buckets seats, roll over bars and straps like in NASCAR.

If they actually make you wear it good for you, that means there's law and order... A law like that was established in CR in 1988, by 1989 it was gone and done with. Placing a law into effect then ripping it out altogether demonstrates the sad political state we live in here.

General, with all due... $50 buck lesson for your loved one to see you again is a great price! Good luck on the roads guys

I thought this was already a national law. In California you can get a $100 ticket for not wearing your seat belt even if you are a passenger. The cops usually don't go out of their way to enforce it but may give you a ticket if you get pulled over for something else, and you NOT smart enough to put your belt on real quick as you pull over.
If I remember right this has been a law in calif since the 80's.

Had a couple of car accidents that wasn't my fault and if I wasn't wearing my seat belt I would be DEAD. My injuried back reminds me EVERYTIME I get in the car to put on my seat belt. It's a reflex and NO hassle at all.

I thought it WAS a national law already?
