Fox is SOOOOooooooooooooooooo.......full of sh!t!! No way , out of 24 million votes, did only 1,300 separate Clay and Ruben in the final votes.........simply impossible....Just their way of trying to justify their rigged show.

Just impossible Journey.....Fox is all about their ratings. They havent been honest from day 1. I guarantee they have never gone by America's votes, only eliminated and kept who they wanted for rating reasons.......

On AOL Ruben had over 200,000 more votes than clay, but like it matters as they both got a contract. I do however think the 1,300 vote difference is BS just to keep people tuned in for next year.

I think Reuben is good but should stick to Gospel Music, Clay is great but like Simon says he belongs singing on Broaway. I think Kimberly Locke should've won easily. This thing was fixed from te begining. 6 weeks ago Reuben was -300 and Clay was +700. The day before it ended Ruben was -120 and Clay -110. Fox really made it interesting for the people who actually bet on this crap!

Ruppert Murdoch is as shady & slimey as they come. No doubt - FOX scripted this one ...

... just like the scripted Joe Millionaire.

Just too perfect.

I didn't watch this show, not even 5 minutes of it...ever. But I did know it was a black guy against a white. Gee, guess who's gonna win? My wife kept telling me the little white kid was an easy winner here. I told her that if he did win, the NAACP and Jesse Jackson would likely claim racism and demand a federal investigation. Civil Rights attorneys would then get involved and demand that Fox prove the integrity of the voting process. Not worth it.

But I really don't think the little white kid (Clay?) was shortchanged. The publicity he received guarantees he'll get a chance to prove he's got what it takes to succeed.

‘Idol’ by the numbers — not! So now we know. Ruben Studdard is Idol in Chief. And Clay Aiken is Idol in Waiting. The smirky, know-it-all host of “American Idol” told us right from the beginning: “You’re not going to believe how close this is.”

And you know what? He was right. I don’t believe it. Nor, I’m sure, do the Clay Aiken “Idol”-ators who’ve been crying foul for weeks, claiming the producers were loading the dice in Ruben Studdard’s favor.

Ryan Seacrest talks with Katie Couric about the final tally that gave Ruben Studdard the win.

Frankly, it doesn’t matter whether they were loaded or not. But it’s no help for truth and the American way when the show itself can’t get the numbers right. Host Ryan Seacrest announced at the top of Wednesday night’s “Idol” capper that only 13,000 votes separated the two contestants out of 24 million. Then, two hours later, he made a correction, telling all of us brain-addled fans that it was, in fact, only 1,335 votes between them.

Man, I thought, not possible. That makes George Bush’s election over Al Gore look like a landslide. Then you think of Florida and the U.S. Supreme Court, and you realize anything is possible.

Trouble is, when you do the math, both of Seacrest’s figures were wrong by whopping margins. If, as we were told time and again, Ruben got 50.28 percent of the vote and Aiken got 49.72 percent, the real difference between them was 134,400 votes. Well, an inch is as good as a mile. Besides, confusion over the numbers is fitting. Last night’s show seemed like a political convention anyway — including the bombast, the state-by-state vote results, the favorite-son posters, the hometown crowds and the confetti.

If at times the production strutted like it was crossed with a tent revival (complete with gospel choir in a reprise of Tuesday’s sing-off) and a Vegas stage show-cum-lounge act (featuring a chorus line of “Idol” finalists practicing for their tour), that was all to the good. The show turned out to be more entertaining than I expected and more than it deserved to be. I’ll settle for that, milking and all.

suetoneous , you are exactly right about your post above. As bad is it may sound, race did play a factor here. Last year, the black girl Tamayra was equal to (some think better) than the winner Kelly Clarkson, and Tamayra got knocked out with like 4 or 5 singers left. No doubt this year, Fox knew it had to tilt the voting favor in Rubens favor, more than likely even lying about who had more votes, in order to let him win to not stir up any controversy or "racism charges".....
