Personally, I think the NBA refs blow ... they're egocentric little rats that ALMOST always call the game in favor of the home team ... me think they're just too pathetic to upset the home crowd & have them on their case.

NFL refs are HORRIBLE too .. the average age of these guys must be about 64 - how on earth can an old geezer that never even played ball keep up with the speed of world class athletes????
The only thing that saves these guys is instant-reply (which is terrible for the game).

NHL isn't bad ... the refs are great skaters .. but the nature of the game (obstruction crazy) makes it VERY tough to call ... MLB is ok .. they're all consistant (usually) with themselves .. but the unique interepation of the strike zone (especially if your name is Greg Maddux) is inexcusable ... a laser driven strike zone could perfect the most perfect game.

All sports should have young/ex-athletes as refs ... these guys are horrible.

Lander - your definitely right about the NBA refs... these guys always call in favor of the home team to the point that it's CRIMINAL.

Can't the NBA see this? It's a joke.

sorry guys, nba refs don't just play up the home team, they call to whatever the big guys who pay them ask them to, nba must be one of the most downright crooked league on the globe, not that there is any league that is not crooked to some extent, but the nba must be one of the no. 1s.

You got instant replay? They were once thinking of doing something similar in soccer, but the majority were against it. This must indeed be terrible for a game...

Let's bring this thread up again in October. The NFL owners are the only group of cheap bastards that won't pay for full time refs.

Without a doubt NHL. I agree the NHL refs are in great shape and keep up with the game well. But as a group they are the biggest group of pansies in sports. Watch the third period of a highly contested game, it is anything goes. If you get beat on a play, simple solution, just grab the guy and drag him down as he goes by. The referees are too chicken shit to make any calls. Takes 80% of the skill out of the game in playoff overtime periods when every sinlge player is obstructed with on every single play.

Don't even get me started on make up calls. If a team has a 5-1 PP advantage in the first two periods then chances are they will call any tic-tac penalty on the team with the 5 PP's and let the team with just 1 PP get away with murder. So one team can hack away the first two periods without any real penalty as it will even out in the end anyway. Then they wonder why hockey can't compete with the major sports.

Almost forgot to mention the whole goalie interference crap. Some book should put odds on whether in the next 3 years some goalie will get caught using a helmet ejector button. Where everytime anyone skates near him he pushes the button inside his glove and his helmet flys off. I think some of these guys might already be using it

I was going to say the NBA, but will instead go with the MLB based on umpires alone who somewhere along the line in the sport were allowed to make up their own rules on where the strike zone is......

OF course there are always those moments to gripe in the NFL but it's pretty well officiated for the most part as a whole. Just my opinion.

NBA is like they can just call anything at anytime if they feel like it or let tons of stuff go (such as Lebron travel).

i voted NBA, but it's only because the rules of the game are so hard to decipher. As fast paced as it can get at times and all the traveling that goes uncalled i can see where refs might have a hard time judging a walk, blocking or charge, and sometimes even a personal foul with all the ball fakes and players jumping into another trying to get contact, and just basically everything.
