The Bisbee-Douglas Copper Kings, of the new independent Arizona-Mexico League, who have redefined bad taste with the announcement that they intend to hold Ted Williams Night on June 2.

And how will they honor one of the game's most respected former stars? By handing out Popsicles to the first 500 fans who show up, that's how.

The only thing worse than the idea was general manager John Guy's explanation. "We felt now that he's a resident of Arizona, or at least part of him is, we wanted to do this," he said. "As with all minor league teams, we have to rely on promotions. And this is a heck of a lot cheaper than bringing in the Dynamite Lady."
