Do away with all bonuses

Search
I have said this for a long time. We don't need them. They are normally abused and wagered uncaringly anyhow. They hurt the industry. Marketing tactic that is bad IMO.

Do Away with them & we are in better shape i think.

AMEN!

For 2 reasons I agree.
Bonus whores hurt the industry & bonuses inevitably put a dent in the book's bankroll.

At the max...10% for NEW accounts....I agree no reup bonuses and "halloween special" bonuses...I agree.this is part of the problem with books going down. I know for a fact that many people would give up bonuses if the book would for sure not go belly up

I SECOND THAT EMOTION!

And as a matter of fact--I vote three four and five times for it! You are right!!!!!!

Do away with these idiot rip off business men in the offshore world...
There are too many books. The books offer bonuses to attract business, because if they don't, they don't have enough customers. The bonuses themselves are not the problem, but a symptom of a big problem...

Sure can't disagree with that cecil. It's the men in charge that are the main problem for sure. Good valid point. I don't know how this is repaired though with little regulation.

It just part of marketing! Nothing wrong with a bonus especially to pseudo square players.

The problem with books is that they don't have any idea how to run a business.

The bonuses are not what leads to the demise of a sportsbook its the misallocations of funds and not understanding simple accounting and financial principles. Its just like any other business the balance of debits and credits and good times and bad times.

Cecil is right. There are way too many books. Some probably have 50 active or real clients. These books need some sort of hook to get new customers in the door.

"Bonuses are nothing more than a ploy to attract customers."

No kidding.

And how do you think smaller/newer books would be able to compete with larger/older books out there if they didn't offer a signup bonus? Why would anyone want to give them a try?

Bonuses are an important marketing expense for most books. There's nothing wrong with them, and they no more hurt the industry than does the telecom expenses a book pays.

What's hurtful to the industry is thieving books who think it's OK to book over their bankroll, and then steal the players' postup funds when things start going south.

Here is the solution folks.

NO more bonuses. What they should do is sort of like an airmiles thing. You get bonuses on action only. You want cash, give us business, that's it. I think 1% cash back is great. It's pretty close to 10% cash. IOW, if I give a book 5000 bucks in action in 1 month, I get back 50 bucks. If I give another book 100,000 in action, I get back 1 dime in cash bonus. This way, NO one can take advantage of any bonus. You play, you get paid. you don't play, you don't get paid. This way, the books now want to give you bonuses, and the more they give you, the happy both of you are. The book makes 4.5%. So if they give you 1% of it, they are now clearing 3.5%, and you are getting your cash bonus, so everyone's happy.

This should be the new rule everywhere.

I look as bonuses as "self insurance".

If you are offered a 20% bonus at five or ten shops, maybe one of them will fail.

Use your bonuses to self insure, minimize your loses. Be aware a 20% bonus shop is risky, play there accordingly.

Standard risk/reward ratio stuff.

Bonuses aren't the problem. It is the stupid people in charge who couldn't run a good business model if they had a to do manual.

Maybe they'll ALL fail eventually. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Don't think so.

Las Palmas has been doing a 20% EVEN ON RELOADS 5X for a few years now, they see fine.

I tend to agree with Cecil and EGD, I don't think these guys have a clue on how to run a business, period.

"Bonuses are nothing more than a ploy to attract customers. "

General, that's like saying "Retail sales are nothing more than a ploy to attract customers."

To the average John, one sportsbooks looks lot like another, Even the Pinnacles and Olympics of the world need average John's, and the only way to get them is to offer what everybody else is. Since every book isn't going to agree to get rid of bonuses, they're here to stay.

For the record, I agree with you. The books would be better off without bonuses. But it just isn't going to happen.

Take a book like NAB who is advertising a bonus that they have declared in advance that they have no intention of honoring. Now that is sick.
