Sitting here watching the CUBS on ESPN makes me miss the good ole days with HARRY.

My friends and myself had the pleasure of meeting HARRY at his bar in Phoenix around 1990.

I asked him if I could take a picture of him and he replied ONLY if it included my good-looking girlfriend who was with us at the time also..............classic HARRY.

harry was the greatest,he loved to bet the horses

The crazy days of Harry were in the late 70's when he did White Sox games with Jimmy Piersall doing color.

Piersall says one day to Harry, "Harry I'm really getting tired of all these cards and letters saying I'm crazy. I'm not crazy and I got the papers to prove it".

Much better than Steve Stone.

I once pissed next to Harry in the Wrigley Field pressbox bathroom. When I walked in, he was already in there. I finished and left and he was still going at it (think he might have had a few brewskies?). Anyway, I get back to my seat and the inning had already started. I always wish I had a tape of that game so I could hear how Steve Stone covered for Harry's absence.

You guys must be kidding. He and his son annoy the hell out of me with their "the Grants are visiting the ballpark from Timbuktu". Or "Jodie, who has been watching us for 27 years is turning 55 today, happy birthday". Please boys, go play bingo with that shtick. Vin Scully never spends half the game talking about who is in the ballpark today, why should anyone else?

As a long time White Sox fan, I watched them regularly during the Caray/Piersall days. A common exchange between them:

Caray: "Did you take your medicine...?"
Piersall: "Yes, did you pay your alimony...?"

Come September and Sunday football, with the White Sox generally out of the race, a clearly bored Piersall would be watching the Bears on a small tv in the booth...and not hiding that fact in the least...

Harry in the booth with his big net to catch foul balls...

Harry doing play-by-play from the bleachers, surrounded by fans, on sunny afternoon games...

Falstaff beer...

The White Sox weren't very good most of the 70's, but with Harry and Jimmy...and all of Bill Veeck's gimmicks (exploding scoreboard, centerfield shower, players wearing shorts...), they were often entertaining...

Run along now and find yourself a Dodger Dog, meanwhile I will be sipping on an ice cold Budweiser.

Favorite Harry line was when Hideo Nomo (back when he was good) first pitched at Wrigley and Harry, slurring badly, said "Look at all those Orientals with their cameras."
