Good read from Las Vegas Sun about downtown Vegas.
"With their crumpled dollars and gloomy gait, they stumble in off Fremont Street through the wide, doorless entrance, beckoned by the sounds of penny slot machines and cheap table games".

The way Vegas should be. Bottom feeding is something most of us have experienced at one time or another.

The true characters are downtown. Visit Leroys during the day. True degenerates.

Best characters now are at The Las Vegas Club. My haunt from time to time, when I stick around down there.

But all the books have their regulars, in the dyas it is the horse players, and in the afternoon the baseball junkies. During football there are all kinds.

It is about the best for watching games, although none are all that great downtown, definately not the Strip as far as comfort goes. But you get better numbers so that is all that matters.

The Horseshoe in it's day was the best spot downtown. Although they were quick to bounce any so called undesirables the place was a bargain compared to most. I especially liked the little deli-counter between the race book and the sports book. Great cornbeef, pastrami, and roast beef sandwiches.

They shut down that little Sports Book area. The potatoe salad is great at the Deli and the sandwiches are OK if the bread isn't too stale.

The greasy spoon counter food ain't bad for the price either. I haven't been back since they re-opened but I used to really love that old sh*thole.

VERY GOOD!

I think wifey and I did "Tony Roma's" at the Fremont.

Carson Street still my fav downtown but I "do" Breakfast at that 50's diner in the Plaza. They used to give you a "pound of pig." More ham then you could eat.

Stephano's is also "top shelf" Italian food in the Nugget with entertaining singing waiters. I've put on ten pounds since I've moved here. Great food everywhere and C H E A P !!

Love Chinese ....

Thanks for the tip.

Hey the Mexican Grub isn't bad at the local joint. Cabo, in Sante Fe Station. The butt on the black chick that works behind the bar is my usual eye appetizer ....

The Horseshoe's deli not only had that great potato salad and sandwiches(even matzo soup for those that like it..yuck!), but most importantly like any great deli..had Dr.Browns sodas in all flavors!

P.S. Kiss, you need to go sweat some soccer matches at Dona Maria's Tamales, while impaling some chicken or spinach tamales..bring Tuley!
