His ego made us go through all this shit. He was never going to take the job, so this was all pointless.

Pancho,
Why does Coach K annoy the shit out of you?? Do you hate or are you jealous of a man that can make things happen?? Truly a GREAT coach for college basketball!!

Probably just similar to many of the NCAA college football coaches that feel insecure and intimidated by grown, professional players/men and would rather stick around and order kids around.....

I guess it makes his egomaniacal legend greater. Now he has turned down both the Celtics and the Lakers, the two most storied frnchises in NBA history.

Not to mention turning down the 8 Mil a year, if that report was true.

Guess fixing college games and buying off refs is more lucrative than we all thought.

Wantitall,
I know some players personally that played for Coach K! He is one of the best coaches for kids today! You just can't be a great player to play for him but you have to have the GRADES! Believe me he doesn't have to buy a ref or fix games to win! Hes a father figure to many of his kids that he recruits! HE WOULD GET NO RESPECT FROM PRO PLAYERS TODAY!! So its a no brainer he doesn't need the money!!!

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

I HATE Duke, but Coach K is great for the NCAA ...

a huge % of his players graduate (at a tough U) despite having some of the greatest players (as thus greater incentitives to leave)

I think he decided when Kobe called him at home, and told Coach K he could be the bench coach, and Kobe was the floor coach. Also, which players to get, Kupcrack is working on that. And to get rid of that fatso Shaq. Does coach K have any teenage daughters? New Lakers choice for coach will now be 2nd choice at best. Where are Rambis and Magic? I am afraid the Lakers will slip so bad it will be hard to fade them in regular season...Best Wishes...OF

It is amazing he gets the players he does. Duke seems to be curced when it comes to actual NBA talent. So maybe that does make him a great NCAA coach, because he never has NBA talent. Grant Hill was probably the best player (NBA level) to come out of that place, and he has been crippled since he graduated. BUt he does win, so that makes good coaching I guess.

BUT, because high school kids are jumping directly to the NBA it does make winning with mediocre talent a little easier.

Until this year only 6 guys had won an NBA title in the past 20 years. That says that coaching DOES matter to me a little bit. Talent obviously helps, but when it is the same guys year in year out, that says something.

Ironically Rudy T is one of those guys. So to me he is an obvious choice. He was the first guy they talked to, but might be a little put off by the K craze. That stunt may have bit the Lakers in the ass.

But if Kobe is palaying the "I am in charge BS" then they won't get anyone, and the Lakers will become Philly west. Kobe jacking it up 50 times a game surrounded by scrubs that he wouldn't pass the ball to if he had all five guys guarding him.

But Shaq will be back, no other team can take him except Sacramento, and even though it sort ofmakes sense I doubt it would ever happen.

Take an objective look at the officiating of most Duke games, especially at home & tell me something isn't up.

If you don't see it then get your eyes checked.

There is an inherent Bias for Duke. Coach K just destroys weak minded officials. Plus that grad rate, high academic standards make Duke a model NCAA program. Plus ACC is tobacco road hoops. And Duke has huge national recognition. I cleaned up on Duke games at end of regular season. Great program but with that you get an additional 3-4 points on the line...Best Wishes...OF

smart move by coach K. too much of a chance at history with Duke to throw away coaching a bunch of cry babys. personally, I think he would have been terrible as an NBA coach. big big difference between coaching intelligent young men and crybaby adults. too steep of a learning curve. see pitino, tarkanian, callapari etc etc

The refs aren't bias for Coach K its the fans that let them have it ,lol! I know that for every 5 kids Coach K invites to Duke as a recruiter that 4 will sign at Duke! Kids are amazed when they see Duke University and Cammaron Center!

Like lander, I hate Duke. But this was a smart move on his part. It's a different story dealing with people making more money than you are......just ask Pitino.

Cameron Indoor is actually a dumpy old building. Compared to NC State's facility and the Dean Dome, it can not compete on its own. Cameron was comparable to old Reynolds and Carmichael on tobacco road. It's not at all the building itself, but the fans that make the atmosphere there. If you walked into Cameron on a non-game day, you would not be impressed.
