Anyone read/reading this book?? Its quuite interesting and talks about the Mary Magdalene angle. She was supposedly Jesus's wife and had his child, the church in the early days knew all about this and basically put out its version of history and the bible that it wanted people to learn and follow. Da Vinci was privy to the facts and buried clues in his paintings including The Last Supper, check it out!

Might blow your hair back a little to get into that book and make you realize everything you were taught wasn't really the truth.

Definately. So the question remains. In simple terms. They are uncovering artifacts and scrolls that make one believe less in the New Testament.Does that meant that we are all to be converted to Judaism? Not that that would be bad. I think that the powers that be realize that we can't not have a religion. So we are being pushed towards something that is not so easily dispovable at this moment.

I wouldn't mind knowing the unadulterated facts. I was raised a catholic and like many others bascially you just acceot what you are told, don't question it. But it turns out we are being fed lies and halftruths and being forced to believe in something that isn't all what it seems.

A painting by one guy is hardly "unadulterated fact." I am probably in the same boat as you. I am in a state of doubt, searching for truth. But there is a lot of evidence for the Bible being true, and this painting doesn't mean squat.

Brock,
Remember this book, The Da Vinci Code, is fiction. Don't treat it like the gospel. When Leonardo painted The Last Supper in 1494 or so, how could he have known the true facts about what happened almost 1500 years before? The painting, although a damned good one, is just that, only a painting. Don't base your whole spiritual life on just a painting, or a book (The Da Vinci Code) about a painting.

Now the subject of the painting? That's something you could contemplate for awhile, in fact you could spend you whole life contemplating and participating in it...Christ took bread, He blessed the bread, He broke the bread, He gave it to His disciples and said, "Take this and eat it; This is My Body. Do This in memory of Me." Brock, you can do this, you can participate in this great mystery, this sacrament of the Eucharist everyday.

What exactly are the lies and half-truths that the Catholic Church has forced upon you?
Are you coming to the Rx Vegas bash?

Unfortunately i am not going to be able to make it the bash, been on tw vacations already this summer and won't be able to do any before labor day.

The book's main theory is that Leonardo was a member of the group or secret society that knew the truth behind the Mary Magdalene story and Jesus's role in that and when the different councils got together in the years and centuries after Christ died, they decided which stories and gospels to keep and which to discard. Mary Magdalene has her own gospel, parts of which were discovered in Egypt..

The Catholic Church hasn't told the story as it was, they gave us the angle they wanted to have passed forward into history. It wasn't until somewhere in the 5th century they even decided that Jesus was a deity, the fact that that was even something that could be voted on and changed after the fact is almost baffling.

I guess I am disappointed in that we, or me as a catholic just blindly accepted what was taught to me and never did any real research.

Brock, that's the whole point of religion. Just do as your told and believe as they say and everything will be fine. No need to think for yourself. It's all a bunch of stories from thousands of years ago when they couldn't explain shit so they had to make up shit to tell people to keep them in line. It was helpful in some wways to keep people in line to advance scoiety. I think it's sorta outgrwon its usefulness in this day and age, but some people wanna cling to it for fear of the unknown, so be it. Just not healthy for people to take religion too seriously.

Just be a good person for the sake of being a good person. Isn't that a more altrusitic approach anyway than being good in order to be rewarded in an afterlife, or to avoid eternal damnation or whatever. Being good while expecting nothing in return is the ultimate altruism. Anyway, I've managed to veer off on a tangent.

Michael Baigent, Henry Lincoln, and Richard Leigh, authors of The Messianic Legacy, spent over 10 years on their own kind of quest for the Holy Grail, into the secretive history of early France. What they found, researched with the tenacity and attention to detail that befits any great quest, is a tangled and intricate story of politics and faith that reads like a mystery novel. It is the story of the Knights Templar, and a behind-the-scenes society called the Prieure de Sion, and its involvement in reinstating descendants of the Merovingian bloodline into political power. Why? The authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail assert that their explorations into early history ultimately reveal that Jesus may not have died on the cross, but lived to marry and father children whose bloodline continues today. The authors' point here is not to compromise or to demean Jesus, but to offer another, more complete perspective of Jesus as God's incarnation in man. The power of this secret, which has been carefully guarded for hundreds of years, has sparked much controversy. For all the sensationalism and hoopla surrounding Holy Blood, Holy Grail and the alternate history that it outlines, the authors are careful to keep their perspective and sense of skepticism alive in its pages, explaining carefully and clearly how they came to draw such combustible conclusions. --Jodie Buller

Just being good will not do it.. You must be perfect (without sin)........ and since none are perfect, thats why you and i need Jesus Christ.. You see he was Gods son in the flesh, and he lived a sinless life, then died upon the cross and was raised again.. He came to make reparations between man and God..

Suppose when you die, my statements are correct. however if when we die, your right then it really wont matter..

Its a choice, so choose wisely..

Brock,
Too bad you're not coming to the bash...I would like to meet you.

You're a bit confused about church history though, do the research yourself, don't believe everything you read in this book, it's a work of fiction.

I asked you to state what lies and half-truths the Church has been force feeding you and all you have said so far is...

"The Catholic Church hasn't told the story as it was, they gave us the angle they wanted to have passed forward into history. It wasn't until somewhere in the 5th century they even decided that Jesus was a deity, the fact that that was even something that could be voted on and changed after the fact is almost baffling."

...That is easy to refute. The Church has always, from its very inception, which of course was on Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon Mary(not Magdalene, but the Mother of Jesus) and the Apostles, declared that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God. The gospels and the epistles of the New Testament were all written in the first century AD, and there are many references in the NT which state unequivocally, that Jesus is GOD. Now, what you are referring to is the first ecumenical council which was held in 325 AD at Nicea, which formulated the Nicene Creed, (you remember that, we say it every Mass after the sermon before the offertory), to counteract the myriad of heresies that had sprung up in the early church.

Good luck in your search for God, that is what life is all about. Be careful whom you admire and follow...you said to D2Bets, "Good points D2! I like the way you think." D2Bets is delusional; he thinks he can save himself. Christ becomes man, comes to earth, dies for our sins so that we might be saved, and D2 in his arrogance, rejects this Gift and proclaims that he, the great and powerful D2 (sounds like the man behind the curtain proclaiming to be the great and powerful OZ) does not need this Gift but that he can save himself. Good luck, D2, I will pray for you. Christ did come to save you too, D2, but you have every right to reject that Gift, afterall, Satan did (reject God, that is).

This is the way I looked at things for a verry long time. Two options that are as follows.

Say to heck with it and don't beleive and risk eternal damnation.

Take the chance and beleive and if perchance it is true you will be rewarded with eternal life.
Not much of a choice right? And any person in their right mind would choose to beleive.Whether history happened as perceived is inconsequential right?

The only problem is...if you can call it a problem, that other religions preach along the sme lines.

This is the reason most beleive.<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by SSI:

The book is great and we all have to remember its fiction. It does get you thinking which is the best part of it.
I dont believe in religion but do believe in God, I think a distintion between the two should always be made.
The church (Catholic or otherwise) was created by man and therefore is flawed, we have to keep that in mind.

Catholic Church gave up many many years ago trying to save souls, C.C. main goal is to make $$ like any other good capitalist enterpise should be. Dont kid yourself paying pennance is ALL about the $$ and not the soul, always will be ,always has been that way. US branch of the C.C. has made that abundantly clear, they did not hide child molesting priests from publc to save face, they did it to avoid the law suits.
P.S> mods - doesnt this belong in politics or somewher like that?

I'm not trying to save myself, I don't need to be saved, I didn't reject any gift (except that one 10% reload bonus that came with an 8X rollover and 30 day hold -- **** that) and I don't need to be "perfect", I just need to be the best D2 I can be. Oh, and I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggonit people like me. Thanks Stuart.
