Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Smarty Jones will make his next start in the Pennsylvania Derby on September 6 at his home track of Philadelphia Park.

Trainer John Servis said his three-year-old colt has been walking and jogging since coming up short of the Triple Crown with a second-place finish to Birdstone at the Belmont Stakes on June 5.

"He's been doing great," Servis said. "He's right on target for the Pennsylvania Derby."

The Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby is the top race at Philadelphia Park.

Smarty Jones has won eight of his nine career starts and has earned more than $7.5 million for owners Pat and Roy Chapman. The Chapmans also have a deal in place for the Pennsylvania-bred to stand stud at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky upon retirement.

According to Servis, Smarty Jones will likely make two starts before the Breeders' Cup Classic in late October. After the Pennsylvania Derby, the next likely start for the colt will be in late September at either the Pegasus Stakes at the Meadowlands or the Super Derby at Louisiana Downs.

Three month lay-off for Smarty Jones, and well deserved. I am looking forward to seeing him run again. Betting on him is another story though, as most likely the public will over bet SJ to unplayable price.

Smarty Jones will be way over bet, those races will be the best to play cause you'll get double what your horse is really worth! Now he meets older horses that will make him retire!!

The PA Derby is for 3yr-olds. The Pegasus is for 3yr-olds. The Super Derby is for 3 year olds. Smarty Jones will not beat the older horses until the Breeder's Cup Classic. They'll just have to wait their turn.

He is the best P.A. bred in the race. Lets not forget this is a grade 2 race after a nice rest. Do your homework Jimmy Rock Hard Ten just ran in the Swaps at Hollywood also a Grade 2 race and won by 8 lengths going away, after a well deserved rest. Take the short price boys or dont play the race he wont lose to any P.A.breds............
