Anyone out there on fiber optic, I know limited availability. I will sign no contracts and dry run it with Don Best first, before signing anything. Pretty amzing claims, T3 speeds. Hate to be cynical but...Best Wishes...OF

I don't have Don Best but suspect the speed of your download is determined more by their system load and the congestion on the connect path than the current rate of your high speed connection. If you use an internal wireless connection then that will now become a choke point. While a T3 line is great for servers I don't see how the consumer can benefit except for stuff like downloading movies etc.

BTW What are the costs like, I didn't even know this was being marketed for home use?

The fiber optic choice is only available is some areas. Some as in very, very few. It is not a business type T3, but a dedicated fiber optic line. It is cat 5 so should be no choke points as my LAN router is cat 5 and cat 6. Without trying, pinging and verifying speed, it is all a pitch. Claims a 10mbps. I will see. Free install, two week trial. I will test the hell out of it. Price, $49.95 per month. No converter needed, goes straight to router. I am learning it as we speak...Best Wishes...OF

Other than downloading files or playing competitive games on the net, how do you improve going from say 3 on a cable modem to 10 on this new technology? I have a hard time seeing the value, much of the upgrade in my system was just buying better hardware. And the cable company jacked me up from under 1mbps to the 3mbps and I didn't notice a thing other than I can download stuff faster.

Great questions Bill, I would say this is a beta test for my operation, or office. The price is cheaper than DSL. I had Gateway custom build my pc's for downloading/internet. Ton of RAM. If you are running 15 to 20 offshores, and D. Best, it is imperative to have the fastest speeds possible, everywhere. If I have to race, I want the best technology and fastest connections possible. One real problem, your neighborhood has to be fiber optic ready. Since my neighborhood is 1 year old, and exclusive, I got lucky. But, I am getting ahead of myself. Let me test it first. I look for every advantage possible...Best Wishes Bill...OF

Getting into FROG's trade secrets here, but no problem, you always been cool to me Lakerfan. I had my PC's built with one digital, one analog display ports. I have my digital port feeding a 19" flat panel, dedicated to Don Best. It stays there. On my analog I run a 17" flat panel. I also have a twin PC for backup and it has the same capabilities, being a twin. I strongly believe in hardware backup. I use only one panel on it, another 17" flat panel. I have everything on my main system on a ups. Have two mice, and keyboards. Expert mouse trackballs. Six preprogammed hot buttons each. Pretty effective set up, but I barely scratch the surface of it's capabilities. Best Wishes...OF

OF,

I love multimonitor setups. Have been using them long before I used them for sportsbetting. They really work well for any power user.

I completely understand being protective of setups. I wrote up a whole piece on my setup just now and then thought better of posting. No reason not to, but you know how it is.

My one tip is that lines feeds often work better on their own seperate computer. Even when you throw a bunch of ram at them, they will likely still slow down the rest of your programs. But if what you have now is working smooth, beautiful.

Yes Lakerfan, that will be part of my beta testing. Don Best by itself. Or dedicated line feed pc. I experiment, try to find the best solution. Again, splitting some hairs here, but optimal performance is a worthwhile goal...Best wishes...OF

I am starting to wonder if you are this fanatical with your fishing set ups.

Rob, I would not say fanatical, but thorough, and well prepared. And when I fish, I am focused on success. I should be relaxing, but I just have this inner drive. Ultra competitive. I ususally have 8-10 poles in my truck, all pretied and ready to go. Every kind of bait imaginable, and every size hook, and sinker. All rigs also pretied. Fished with a poster here. I eased up when I was beating both of them 17-0-0 on their own home pond. I shared my secrets and bait just so they could catch something. Even gave my best bait up, last one. A shirt off my back kind of deal. One of the best ponds I have ever fished. To be honest, I will look for improvement always, I am never satisfied. This business is becoming more and more competitive. I just keep upgrading and expanding. The way I view my setup is my tools of the trade. I spare no expense, take no short cuts. I wish I had an apprentice...Best Wsihes...OF

Thanks Woody, now a favorite site. I am always a humble man when it comes to gaining knowledge. Install date is July 28th. Will do many before and afters. Actually fun in a way, trying to max out performance. Will not overclock...Thanks again Woody...OF

We couldnt stop him,but we did contain him.
OF got out of the truck and caught 17 straight. After a timeout we got OF into the boat, hit him with a weight, hit him with a fish and pole and got the next 10.Then we stole his bait. That pissed him off,and he ran the table on us.
Nothing better than meeting and having new freinds.
Thankyou RX--Greenhead

Greenie and host could not have treated me better. They just sat and talked on the boat letting me work the shoreline. After getting a couple I decided to join them. They paddled while I fished. That was an unfair advantage. I was very lucky they were just goofing off and built a small lead. But when it came down to trying, I got hit with everything. Greenie even hit me upside the head with a fish just to taunt me, as I was slumping. Could not have had a better time, and met some real good people. Hopefully long term friends. I will try to improve the pond, plant some frogs and crawdads. That is the least I can do for one excellent fishing trip. A frog benjamin rating. As Greenie said, thanks RX..and best wishes...OF

My speed would never be that great because I use Vonage and have their router slowing down the line. No big deal though, it still comes in around 1mbps.

I am running YourSpeed v2.3 to websites in: The World. Duration: 1 minute. No auto repeat. 41 frames. I think this is real world for me. I have tried multiple runs with many variables. Standalone 685-700 kbps. Slightly slower with two display pc. That is through my LAN, DSL. If I try both at once, both take 33% degradation. Another not so real world is max speed. Good thing here is you get download and upload to their server. I hit 1 meg here on download, but 235 kbps on upload. This, as Woody says is much better than ping, as ping is really a communication verify, sending a small packet. This is round trip bulk, with throughput measure. Excellent site. Will have it mastered soon. Another excellent feature is stopwatch. It took me 8.3 seconds to download RX webpage. You can also auto run, but I see no practical application for that as of yet. Thank You Woody, and Best Wishes...OF

Glad you like the site.

My DSL line tests at 1 Mbs download and 518 kbs upload. The world test for 1 minute 41 frames gives 626 kbs. That's typical but exact numbers will vary from hour to hour.

Yes I am noticing and tracking variations. I wonder why my upload is so far off? I should have no bottlenecks. Tell you one thing, multiple PC's really degrade performance. Much more than I would have anticipated. And I was thinking of running one or two more. Might drop me down to dial up? I am thinking now if I can, of running both DSL and fiber optics. Split off betting sites from line feed. That might be optimum. Have to buy one more PC, couple more flats. Best Wishes...OF
