Often in these forums, I read, and rightly so, that we each try to get the best number when wagering. Nice idea, but frankly, easier said then done. So, the question posed is what process do you use to get the best number? With the upcoming football season, lines will be posted Sunday evenings and with movement occuring immediately after posting as well as throughout the week and heavily on gameday right up until kick-off.

For myself, it comes down to establishing my own number before the lines are posted and basically by experience and feel anticipating what I think the direction of movement will be. That being said, I have many times been caught going in, both too early or too late, as well as being successful in both directions.

Please feel free to share you own methods for "Getting The Best Number".

as far as getting the best number available......

1. have multiple outs....is a common answer, but 5 outs that copy the same number isnt going to do you any good...make sure they have different numbers...(square out/sharp out)

2. pay attention to "public teams"

3. the basic rule of thumb....bet chalks early and dogs late is pretty much true....

4. take advantage of key numbers ASAP.....you can always buy back later if neccessary.....

5. be carefull of lines influenced by "key injuries"

6. as the season progresses, keep in mind the opening number is usually pretty sharp....especially on games with significant line movement...

I go for the -102 Tuesdays at Caribsports and BetAustralia. My only problem then is knowing which side to take

As Dime said up above: bet chalks early and underdogs late. I try to determine early in the week who I like that weekend. If it is a favorite I bet it immediately. If it is a dog I will wait till the last minute.

When there is a line move on a game, I would say that 75% of the time the favorite moves up

Good post Ted.

I am terrible at predicting line moves. May be part of the reason I am a bad NFL player.

From August until January I will help old ladies cross the street. The good Karma guarantees me getting down on many good numbers.

The other thing that has helped me is variety of outs: Oly, Pinny, IIS, 5 Dimes, BoDog, Bet365, Carib, ETC.
