MILWAUKEE (AP) Ken Griffey Jr. left the Cincinnati Reds' game at Milwaukee on Saturday night after he strained his right hamstring while running down a fly ball in the fourth inning.

The Reds said the All-Star outfielder will return to Cincinnati to have an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury.

Griffey, 20th on the career home runs list with 501, chased down a fly ball hit into the right-center field gap by Brady Clark. As Griffey neared the warning track in a full sprint, the ball bounced off his glove and ended up as a triple.

Griffey appeared to hurt his leg as he landed on it, but continued to track down the ball and walked off the field immediately after the play with no apparent limp.

He has been hampered by a series of well-documented injuries during the past few years.

Griffey missed more than a month with a torn hamstring that bothered him throughout the 2001 season. He spent two long stints on the 15-day disabled list with a torn patella tendon and a torn right hamstring in 2002, then went to the DL twice again last year for a dislocated right shoulder and torn ankle tendon.

Last week, Griffey was voted an All-Star starter for the 12th time. He's hitting .251 with 20 homers and 60 RBIs, but has just one home run since hitting his 500th on June 20.

It seems to always be his hamstrings lately...not a bad back or something you'd expect to reoccur...damn , unbelievable!

It's alright he still has his contract paying him millions of dollars each year. No need to feel sorry for him. I wonder how huge this guy would have become had he not suffered all these injuries these past 5 seasons. Oh well, He'll still make the hall of fame.

Center fielder Carlos Beltran switched All-Star teams Sunday. Voted to the AL squad by fellow players before being traded from Kansas City to Houston, Beltran was picked for the NL roster to fill the opening created when Ken Griffey Jr. was hurt Saturday night. Beltran became the first player to be chosen for one All-Star team and wind up on the other side.

wil.

We'll never know how good he could have been with no injuries, but only speculate. It was just meant to be this way.

Whatever Packer, that is a stupid statement.

But anyway, 2-4 weeks is the rumor.

Dr. Timothy Kremchek was interviewed on the local news last night and he was the one that took the MRI and examined Griffey.

He said that Griffey SHOULD return in about 3 weeks but it could take longer. It depends on the individual and how fast they heal, etc.
