He named Emmit smith the starting RB in A'zona over Marcel Shipp.Smith is COMPLETELY washed up and shouldn't be starting for anyone while Shipp has proven he can get the job done. The cards will be looking for another coach before the season ends!

I wouldn't make a whole lot out of this. Once pre-season is over most likely Shipp (if healthy) will play himself into the starting job. Green is imo just giving the once great Emmitt Smith the job hornorarily.

Hope you're right Wil,I'm not a Cards fan but I really like the way Shipp runs hard every time he touches the ball.I think he could be a studd on the right team.

Shipp will most likely be the starter once it matters (if it ever matters for the cards)

Have you guys forgotten who writes the checks there? Bidwell surely told Green I want Emmitt out there or else. I didn't pay him millions to make me look like a fool. Of course all of Phoenix knows who the fool is in town...

I think Wil's got it right. Smith starts, Shipp will get the bulk of the carries. Green is trying to set the tone. Smith is a respected player and he'll be more of a "show piece," while the offense will turn to Shipp more as the season progresses.

Probably a good move by Green.

I u-stand what you guys are saying about letting Smith start then Shipp would get the bulk of the carries. However,Smith proved last year he couldn't get the job done so why take the starting job away from Shipp which he has worked hard for? If I was Shipp I would be pissed off @ this decision! Smith shouldn't start 1 game because of his name or what he use to be.

everything I read says shipp will probably be the starter in september and that this more than likely a motivational ploy. I doubt he will be denied being a starter unless smith miraculously outshines him in preseason.

Green is talking of making his base offense, 3WR set. As Smith has more experience and is better at pass blocking, it would equate that he becomes the starter. That doesnt mean he will get the most carries, its just a question of Shipp becoming better at pass blocking.

There has been coaches that won alot of games but were not the smartest guy in town. You are right,Green has won alot of games but he's also made a sh*tload of bad decisions as coach and even considering starting Smith is another one!

Do you mean that a stupid coach can go l5-1 during the regular season? And yes, I know Green lost the first round that year.

Just do it,

Forget about these trivialities, Green is a good coach that knows how to beat suspect Ds. The NFC West is devoid of Defense and 3 WR sets are going to give the others fits and he knows it.

Better spending your time on getting the best price Arizona available.

Dennis Green is a good coach. He always succeeded even if the talent level wasn't that good.

I think Dennis Green looks like a big-fat Gary Coleman. Am I wrong? I also think that Denny Green has shown over, and over a respect for the elderly. Cris Carter rode Duante Culpepper, and Randy Moss who were clearly unhappy about it to the point they were doen with the Vikes if Green was not replaced. Yes they are jerk offs, but the point still stands that he backs veterans down to their death rattles. That said, I think naming the future Hall of Famer the starter in pre-season is a good team move, and sends the right message. For now.
