Speaking of Michael Cooper.......

It got me thinking...

If you were a pro athlete or coach, would u prefer to dominate in a lesser league, or flounder in the big league?

I mean Cooper has a shot to win the WNBA title again, yet he gives it up to be a bench coach for the Nuggets....

Our local coach here in Southern Indiana, Bruce Pearl, was a dominating Div II coach, yet left for a small school in the NCAA....

Would u rather be a superstar player in the Arena League, or a bench rider in the NFL?

How about Coack K, he chose to stay in College, however NCAA isnt the bush leagues....But would u rather be a dominating NCAA coach, or a .500 coach in the NBA like Pitino was...?

Obviously the money is a big factor, but putting money aside, does ego have alot to do with this?

HOw about Gino A (spelling) from Uconn? Do you think he would rather be coaching men at Texas El Paso in the NCAA, or dominating the Women's college game?

Just curious as to what some others think about this?

Just one of those things i was thinking about..

I think Coop-a-loop sees a future with the young Nuggets led by emerging star Melo. Great move on his part, if he goes down in flames the WNBA will still be around, as will college B-ball.

Im sure he considers it a stepping stone to a head coaching job in the nba, but i just wonder what is really more impressive, making it to the nba and being a bench coach, or sub .500 coach, or dominating the wnba as a coach...

Ego says the nba i would think..

There is no doubt it is about the money. A head WNBA coach makes about 25% of what a bench coach in the NBA makes.

The guy at UCONN with the women's program is one of the few (Tennessee women's coach also) that get paid extremely well so he has no reason to leave.

And as far as why people make the jump, obviously these are all competitive people. They feel if they can be a star at the lower level, all it takes is getting their foot in the door at the next level and eventually they will be a star there as well.

I am sure Cooper will miss all the perks being the head coach of the sparks. I am sure hes dunked a couple of those girls. What you think?

100 womens D-I coaches making more than Cooper. Cooper was Laimbeers little bitch.

NCAA womens coaches make more than people think. They make more than mens baseball coaches at 80% of the schools

Michael Cooper at one time was a Lakers assistant coach before phil jackson came on the scene. Why he step down I have no idea. Then later on few years later became the sparks head coach. I think railbird is right, I think a lot coaches in the ncaa make more than what you think more so than the wnba coaches. I'm referring to the ncaa division 1 schools.

Women's NCAA basketball coaches have a great gig going...with Title IX, they have to make comparible salaries to men's sports. There is very little pressure and the pay is great. Much better than the WNBA. I don't know why anyone would coach in the WNBA.

I would assume for the same reason Cooper did, just to show u can do it, and win, and use it as a stepping stone...

Much like Ncaa football coaches do...I think in college football, much more than basketball, the coaches are looking to move to the pros, and use it as a springboard....some coaches, like Bobby Knight, Dean Smith, Jim Beoheim, and others wouldnt consider the nba, but i think most all college football coaches would like to make the nfl...

We didnt say women coaches making as much as men, but any D-I womens coach makes 60K minimum, and more often than not make more than the head coach of the mens baseball team. MidMajor coaches make about 60K, private schools, SEC, PAc and Big 10 they are making 90-120K.

My freind is womens volleyball coach and makes more than mens volleyball coach at the same school. School is a top 20 program. Title IX is the reason.

I know several Division I women's coaches as well and they are paid very well in comparison to their male counterparts, just as Railbird has pointed out.
