in lieu of the british open i would start this
thread!!!

your in a two man scramble and you hitting first
and you have easy chip straiht up hill and you
blade it off green. you then wait anxiously on your partner for a nice shot wishing you could
re-hit and then the dreaded chili-dip and you
bogey the hole....

I see, then the ball doesn't travel as far I assume. Always learning at TheRx.

Chili-dip....happens a lot when you try and "scoop" the ball onto the green. People get afraid to properly chip the ball with follow-through and end up decelerating on the downswing in an attempt to lift the ball onto the green gently. The ball ends up hardly moving. This shot has been known to cause broken clubs.

I'm a bad golfer....I'll take the bogey.

MY biggest problem with these shots with the lie you describe is leaving the club face open as I delicately try to scoop the ball and put it into the cup or damn near in the cup.

"If my day doesn't get any better, I'm taking a Mulligan." Yes, I have had that happen to me more than I like to remember.
The Gen. will like this one.
One time down in the P.I. I was hitting a bucket and this black guy approached and asked if I wanted to play 9.
I said, sure. on the 3rd hold we passed a 2sum and one guy said, "Hey, General, I see ya hooked it". (and he wasn't talking to me). GENERAL!! General Benjamin O. Davis, I think his name was. Heck, we were in civies. I was just a punk kid. That was a thrill though, playing with the brass.
More of thrill was playing with Clint Eastwood in the Bing Crosby pro am a mountain of years ago. What a nice guy and really funny. I grew up playing golf. Back when I was in high school the kids used to laugh at me because I was the only four year varsity letterman in the school's history at that time. They don't laugh now, when I take their money,
