New Kitten, ( last cat killed by car ) has a problem.

She gets the concept of a litter box, somewhat, uses it, but seems to think the objective is to throw as much litter out of the tray as possible, it's cute about twice !

I'm looking for a solution ! As a temporary one, i'm thinking of a cardboard box slighly larger than the litterbox, and about 12-18 inches high, and cutting a gateway into said box, large enough for kitten to enter. maybe she grows out of this ?

I intend to keep this cat 100% indoors, and would never de-claw a cat.

I apoligize for putting this thread here, but lack a viable alternative.

Someone here can likely help me, if not this will sink quickly to page2 , and be forgotten.

I had the same problem with my kitten. It was annoying to always clean. Easy solution buy a litter box with a top and swinging door. Pets mart has them

DougJ,

Use a plastic open box type container. You can buy them at wal mart for $5 or so. They work reasonably well and that's about all you can hope for! Cats will always figure out a way to make a mess.

Make sure you clean out the litter box often, as cats would prefer to use the bathroom on your floor if the litter box isn't "clean".

You might still have to vaccuum sometimes but with a small cat, it should work well as long as the cat can get into the box.

Doug, your idea with the larger box outside the litter box will work but will look ugly. Go for a covered box.
