July 19, 2004 -- If Las Vegas' mayor has his way, The Strip may soon be truer to its name.
Mayor Oscar Goodman told Time magazine, "It's just a matter of when" casinos will be able to open strip clubs. The gambling palaces are negotiating with the gaming commission to get permission to add lap dances to the menu.

But as part of his effort to reverse the city's move toward respectability, Goodman, a former defense attorney for accused mobsters, wants to go a step further.

Prostitution should be legal in the casinos, too, he tells Time.

Goodman faces resistance from the more conservative gaming-control board which recently forced the Hard Rock Café to remove a billboard with a naked woman lying on a blackjack table.

Vegas must make up their minds. Do they want to appeal to families, or do they want to be "sin city".

I'm with Judge. Why can't there be one adult sanctuary where (almost) anything goes. While they're at it, why not legalize marijuana there too?

Legaizing prostitution in the casinos???

huh??

Does he mean brothels or just plain old street hookers???

The Chicken Ranch should be able to operate a business in the Ceasers Forum Shoppes.........always been an advocate of that.

Vegas does not now, nor have they ever, given two shits about ANYBODY'S family!

The family thing a few years back was simply an experiment to see if it would bring in more "sheep" for them to shear!

Is anyone on here really STUPID enough to believe that Vegas is about anything besides taking all of everybody's money.

And what is the mayor up to?

Having hookers all over the place and simply instructing security to "overlook" them is working just fine! Don't you think!

Stupid stuff, the Mayor just loves publicity. They would never do this for a reason a lot of people completely miss. Despite the growth of the casinos and their "headline" appeal, Vegas is becoming a "serious" town with businesses. Some are complaining they can't recruit anyone to town because of the ads and the image. This is why all the fines and lawsuits about racy ads on billboards and such. The LVCVA definitely wants to keep the crowds coming, but they won't let it go too far. As much as the Mayor might think that would be a good thing, reality is it is a bad thing in that it will further kill off the rest of the town's draw. Too many wives from other states think their husbands will find trouble already, putting into law like this would be too much. And believe it or not, there are a ton of "family values" types around Nevada that really do have a lot of clout once you get out of casino corridors.
