They had no bullpen and a lot of finger pointing last year going into the playoffs. They lost two in Oaktown and it really reached a fever pitch. Then they figured out how to play and almost got to the Series. This stuff right now means little, they are still in the Wildcard hunt and if they get to the playoffs will be a tough team to deal with again. Any team that starts Pedro and Schilling will be a tough team to beat. If Lowe could ever figure it out they will be devastating.

Think they would be better to put Lowe back as the closer, and use Schilling, martinez,Arroyo, and Wakefield, and find someone to fill in as 5th starter.....

Not sure if it can be helped but the real problem with the Sox is defense. The first two runs scored by Seattle tonight should never have happened. As much as I hate to say it I don't see any solution, their infield (especially when Pokey sits) is atrocious. Catching medicre at best, and but for Damon the outfield may be the worst in baseball defensively. Blame the pen if you want, the real problem is this team cannot catch the ball, plain and simple. Station to station offense is problem #2.

They got 3 closers or something like that, doubt they will add a fourth! I don't see any chance Arroyo makes the starting rotation unless injuries force them. I just don't have a clue what the GM is thinking, lots of good pitchers that can take the #3 or #4 role out there and he trades for none of them. Oh well, what team wants to face a rotation of Pedro/Curt/Tim and maybe Derek?
WB in case you may have missed it Arroyo has been lights out lately, including tonight. Pitching 7 full, allowing 3 hits and 1 run with 12 Ks and 2 walks. He blinded the Rangers last friday going 8 shutout innings in Texas,

He is in the rotation for good no matter who the Sox pick-up. Compared to Lowe and even Wakefield he has been very impressive over his last 7 starts.

Arrooyo has been starting most of the season, and pitched well again tonight...
They may have 3 closers, but none are any good....thats the problem...Lowe was excellent as a closer...Maybe like a Gagne, cant be effective as a starter, but strong as a closer

El Duque and Contreras are simply not reliable. The pen has been great with Q,Flash and Mo, but they keep that Felix Heredia loser around for no apparent reason ...

Bucknor and the three umpires talked it over and crew chief Chuck Meriwether called the press box, which verified that Schilling's observation was correct
