CAN A DIME PLAYER THRIVE IN VEGAS?

Sometimes I think of pulling up stakes and moving to Vegas and playing a dime a game. Can a dime player operate in Vegas under the current climate for sports bettors in Las Vegas? Can the dime player fly in under the radar, and operate successfully? The reason I ask is because I have heard repeatedly that Nevada bookmakers put obstacles in the way of sucessful players,to the extent that most players have now moved offshore.

You will have no problem betting a DIME a game.

A large selection of shops however will have lower limits on such things as totals, hockey, props, etc.

A dime player will go unnoticed in Vegas! To many shops to play at, a dime a game in Vegas is pennies to these shops!

Even on baseball sides you can get at least a dime down at most places.Like fish said totals in any sport is where you might have a problem and would have to spread it out a little.

Thanks NICKY,

I hope the new article on the home page is correct.

Would be great if Vegas books would straighten up and take some real action.

The big places don't squeak until you play 2-3 dimes. Then they will want a player card so they can track your play.

So that they can track your play, and maybe pass along the info to the IRS? Am I being paranoid here?

Dime players will be noticed, but allowed to operate except if you think you will be playing a lot of CFL or WNBA. I am not kidding though, they will know you if you are a dime player and watch you somewhat, that is how low Vegas has gone.

Thrive or survive...As soon as you are being recognized as not a visitor, and are betting dimes, on some areas limits, you will no longer be flying under the radar. They will try to find out who you are, what you are doing, and if you are a messenger. They will start requiring identification, to bet. Hurdles will be placed, and they will look at you even closer. If you are cashing regularly, you may get lowered limits or just 86'd. I did my Nevada time, from the handwritten days until the corporate takeovers. You will not be welcomed...Best Wishes...OF

Frog's post makes a lotta sense when compared to most casinos policies towards anyone sharp beating them at the blackjack tables....

I know the casinos are there to make money, but really what's the big fuss over sports gambling from a casino standpoint? If I was a bookie and someone was hitting me for large amounts of cash, I'd just pass it on and add a few $$$ myself and collect from a proven winner....or move the points and try to balance the risk out by tempting other bettors to take the other side to the one that the successful bettor took.

Maybe that's a simple way of looking at it, but wouldn't you want to make a profit off of someones talent? If someones successful at a given field, isn't that the person to be listening to....????

I don't think it is all that common these days, really. I haven't heard of too many 86ed players anymore, those that aren't allowed in are a legacy of the past. Most of today's limits are so low and the action is much more profitable for the books that they won't bother with it. Will they recognize you? Of course, they recognize the guy that comes in everyday to play $20 parlays. Casino people are absolutely brilliant at recognizing faces, they would spot someone in the black book from 15 years ago within 5 to 10 minutes. Will they boot you? I highly doubt it, if you are only playing dimes, especially since you are unlikely to be giving one book all your action.

Dime player..no problem

As mentioned above, if you are a winner, you may want to play bigger books or spread your play around town if not a critical number play, as to not have some small/nervous types make you feel unwelcomed.

If you are a totals guy, you may have to make multiple stops to fill up on the smaller sports.

If you are a winner, or as OF states a known & charted local, you may find it hard to get comps at some places(just their way of being friendly), but should never be 86'ed(even if playing the "smarts" teams)..start moving 3, 5, 10, or 20 pieces a pop it's a whole 'nother monster!

P.S. exilarch, if you move there, be sure first and foremost, that you are someone that alcohol, or table games, or the easy access to props, making bets, having action, or going tilt in any of Vegas' vices..will not affect you any more than playing a local or offshore would in stepping out of your normal routine.

Vegas isn't for everyone, some folks that have enough self-control in their home locales, lose it a bit after relocating to LV, be honest in judging yourself..stay grounded.

exilarch- I have to ask. Why would you want to move to this shithole, has been, won't take a bet city when you can bet at tons of offshore books that give you wide betting menus and reduced juice?

I'm always perplexed when someone such as yourself who has been a pretty good poster on this site still thinks this city is in the gambling business. Las Vegas is a corporation controlled dive that calls a board meeting if someone beats them out of a $20 two team parlay in the NBA.

Thats the truth soccerbob and those who don't think that all the books in this town won't sweat a dime to a winning player is 1000% wrong.

Most the baseball limits are dime or two anyway so beating these corporate bean counters out of limit bets consistently will DEFINTELY raise a red flag regardless of those who "think" are in the know have written in this thread.

soccar and oscar are balls on accurate, I believe.

This turds sweat ANYONE winning! All they really want is stupid tourists playing parlay cards and blue haired old ladies playing slots.

Actually ANYONE playing slots. All the rest of the frills (table games, sportsbooks) are just there to keep us around until they can brainwash enough people to SETTLE for slots and parlay cards.

Oh, almost forgot... They will give you all the Keno you want!!!

Now they are making a fortune off of EVERYTHING in the resort. Rooms, food, beverage, and even giftshop as well as entertainmet are all cash cows.

Well keep this in mind,

There are people that make a living off of going to the casino and gamble. Whether it be in cards and the sportsbook.
