Great story on "Outside the Lines" tonight about the 1994 Montreal Expos. Great points by the writer mentioning that Cliff Floyd was still a developing player, imagine that. What a loaded team that was, huge shame they didn't get a chance to prove themselves in the playoffs that year.

My mistake, he said Rondell White not Cliff Floyd was still developing. Here was one of their lineups:

Grissom cf
Floyd 1b
Alou lf
Walker rf
Fletcher c
Lansing 2b
Cordero ss
Berry 3b
Hill p

The rotation was Hill, Pedro, Fassero, Reuter, and Henry. The pen had Rojas who was almost as good as any closer, but they had Wetteland to pitch the ninth. If they led after 6 the game was almost certain to be over. A great team with great chemistry of guys mostly in their prime. The next year after the strike ended their ace Hill and stopper Wetteland were gone, so was Grissom and Walker.

I still remember it like it was yesterday, that team made me a TON of money in May and June when the betting world still hadn't caught onto how good they were. I still remember they would play cellar dwellers and only be -140 favorites at home with Fassero or Martinez on the mound.

fassero was damn good back then, Ken Hill too...looking back , the lineup doesn't seem as impressive as it was either, especially after Larry Walker.

tell me about it, billy boy. I will never forget those days.. It was the most memorable year for me by far. We ended up 74-40, best record in baseball and were blowing away every team if you look back at the scores. We were drawing 35,000 plus every night and the city was buzzing.. Then when the strike occured, it was the beginning of the end of baseball here. We had to let go all our stars and then the team never had a chance again. If there was no strike that year, who knows what could have happened today. We probably still would have had all our star players had we won the world series and baseball today would be strong here in Montreal.. That strike killed not only my dream of ever winning a world series here, but also killed baseball for good.

I still think of how my life could have changed had baseball never striked that year. I have never gotten over this..
