Williams interested in another Tyson fight

Unheralded British heavyweight Danny Williams shocked the world Friday night with a fourth-round knockout of Mike Tyson, and Williams says he's eager for a rematch with the former champion, according to a published report.

In the report, Williams said, "I think people may doubt my victory (at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky) so I would like to give Mike another beating. I'd like to fight him one more time to show it wasn't a fluke. I'd love for the fight to be in London and it would be nice to give the British fans something by beating him up even worse next time."
Williams was nearly knocked out by Tyson in the first round, but he recovered and finished Iron Mike off in the final seconds of the fourth with series of unanswered punches.

What's more Williams seems to have a plan following a second fight with Tyson.

"After fighting Tyson again, I would love to go straight into a world title shot," Williams said. "I don't think any of the champions out there at the moment are that great."

As for the 38-year-old Tyson, the future isn't quite as bright. But it seems as if he will continue his boxing career. He also left Louisville with a knee injury and a battered right eye.

His loss cost him a lucrative deal worth a reported $80 million with promoter Bob Arum. A win could have gone a long way towards erasing his financial debts. It seems the only way for Tyson to recapture credibility is to defeat Williams in a rematch.

Holyfield Calls Out Danny Williams

Who would of thought that the entire boxing world would be talking about Danny Williams this week? Williams, an unknown to most boxing fans outside the UK prior to the Tyson fight, is now a household name even to the most casual boxing fans. Danny Williams threw a wrench into one of the most anticipated comebacks in the heavyweight division. The whole division was depending on a returning Mike Tyson to come back strong, start a blaze within the heavyweight division and eventually to stage a mega showdown with Vitali Klitschko. Mike Tyson may leaving boxing as quickly as he returned and the heavyweight division is in no better shape then it was prior to this fight.

The one man that boxing can't seem to get rid of is Evander Holyfield. Holyfield, who was at ringside in Louisville to see Danny Williams knock out Mike Tyson, has called out Williams to fight him next. The word going around is that Evander approached Frank Warren's American partner, Sterling McPherson, and asked him to set up a fight with Danny Williams in the United States.

"Danny has good hands and moves well but I would still like to meet him." said Holyfield

"I've beaten one old man and I'll do the same against Holyfield if the price is right. But I think people may doubt my victory over Tyson, so I would like to give Mike another beating to show it wasn't a fluke. WILLIAMS READY TO DOMINATE - MANAGER

Danny Williams is ready to emulate Lennox Lewis and become the dominant force in the world heavyweight division.

That is the opinion of the man who masterminded Williams' stunning fourth-round knockout of Mike Tyson in Louisville on Friday night.

Williams' trainer Jim McDonnell believes his charge has now gained the self-belief to go with the talent which always lurked inside.

And McDonnell insisted: "I think Danny has the capability to rule the heavyweight division.

"There are not many good champions out there now and in beating Tyson, Danny has gone to another level.

"I honestly think that with his mental status sorted out he will be unbeatable.

"He is 31 years old so he is still young in heavyweight terms. Danny can rule for years to come."

Former European champion McDonnell got back with Williams earlier this year following a brief separation.

And his rigorous training regime paid off handsomely for a fighter whom many thought did not have the bottle to succeed.

Now Williams is looking up to the champions and was delayed in the United States for a round of television interviews.

McDonnell insists he is not immediately interested in taking up yesterday's challenge from the Olympic champion Audley Harrison.

McDonnell added: "Fighting Audley now would be like coming out of the Premiership and going into the Second Division.

"Danny has got to look to the top, to the Vitali Klitschkos and Chris Byrds of this world. He is a major player now.

"Financially and physically Audley is no longer a challenge. He always accused Danny of using his name for publicity. That is exactly what Audley is doing now."

williams is right, there arent any great champions out there. thats why tyson is going to beat him in a rematch and [eventually] become champion again. "It's going to be like rocky when he got old, except tyson is black."

Generally Danny Williams will try to get something (anything really) out of beating Mike Tyson because all he got for beating him was the box office takings (around $80,000).

Danny Williams isn't even getting the full amount of the $250,000 purse that was originally offered because of the ahem, promoter.

It is shocking to me that so many otherwise sharp, solid sports bettors can't see past the mirage that is Mike Tyson's talent. Whether he can take Danny Williams (who?) in a rematch is hardly the point.

Really, one must ask oneself why Tyson should be amongst the top ten contenders. Please, save the "if he gets in shape" argument. If this guy cannot comprehend that he has one foot out the door and the other on a banana peel, what is going to help him?

Tyson, like so many others, once was dominant in his sport. He is not dominant any longer, in fact is losing to journeymen (no offense, J-man). Tyson ought to get up with Rickey Williams (not Danny) and fade into the sunset.

I must say I will not complain, however, if the public is willing to back Mike for another ten years, hoping he "gets in shape." After all, somebody has to buy the take-back on whatever "tomato can" Mike is fighting.

Mike Tyson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in Phoenix on Monday to repair cartilage damage sustained during his fight with Danny Williams.

A spokesman for Tyson said Dr. Richard Emerson fixed four tears in the knee apparently suffered late in the first round of Tyson's knockout loss to Williams in Louisville, Ky. on Friday.

Fred Sternburg said the damage was more severe than anticipated and the doctor was surprised that Tyson fought after hurting the knee.

Tyson was stopped at 2:51 of the fourth round by a barrage of punches from Williams, who was once the British heavyweight champion. The 38-year-old Tyson was trying to come back after a 17-month layoff.

Sternburg said the doctor estimated Tyson's knee would be 90 percent healed in eight weeks.
