Cowboys cut Carter after positive cocaine test

Quarterback Quincy Carter is expected to be released by the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday after testing positive for cocaine, league sources told FOX NFL Sunday insider John Czarnecki.

Club owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Carter has been released. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells is expected to hold a regularly scheduled news conference at 11:30 a.m. PT Wednesday at the team's training camp headquarters in Oxnard, Ca.
Carter entered the league in the NFL substance abuse program and this is his second positive test, which by NFL rules would warrant a four-game fine — not a suspension.

According to an earlier broadcast report, Carter was AWOL from practice Wednesday morning, and the absence is not injury related and the Cowboys will be making an "official" statement regarding Carter after the conclusion of practice. But other broadcast reports have intimated that the Cowboys quarterback will be released, leaving Vinny Testaverde and Drew Henson to battle for the starting position.

Micky Spagnola, the station's Cowboys beat reporter, compared the situation to that of Tony Banks three years ago where Banks was absent from practice and it was announced after practice that he had been cut.

This move comes on the heels of unanimous opinions that Henson has been the best quarterback in camp thus far, which had to be at least mildly upseting to Carter, who started all 16 games for the Cowboys in 2003, leading them to a 10-6 record.

In his first season as the full-time starter - after splitting time the first two seasons - Carter threw for 3,302 yards, but had 21 interceptions and 17 touchdowns. He was intercepted at least twice in six games.

I don't understand what the big deal is. tuna cuts em, quincy does em. I was hanging out with these douche bags along with keyshawn. And I said to key "I cant believe tuna's gunna rip that one." to which he replied "just throw me the damn ball." then quincy ripped two big ones. Then I said to key "lets get out of here. this coke stuff is gay, it got played out way back with irvin, plus youre better than him." then key said "just get me the damn ball" then I was like "key, you know. .you really outta think about taking off your shoulder pads, when you're in a hotel." and then he just quietly muttered "just get me the damn ball" to acknowledge me.

i knew Henson would be the QB when they picked him up. I could just picture Keyshawn and the other recievers bitchin about Quincy's horrible arm and then they see Drew zippin passes all over the field. Its a good move, but Vinny needs to go also.

I think this is good news for cowboys' fans. I am a fan and I hated having him as QB. He sucked at GA and he sucked in Dallas

Let's not forget that Q was not going to be the starter in his final year of college. All the sudden after a few DECENT games people think he's the second coming of Aikman.....puuuulease.

ANYWAY...damn my Giants for not trading their second or third rounder for Henson then taking someone else other than a QB with the first rounder...bastards....

Manning better be worth it.

That breaks my heart. I was so looking forward to Quincy fumbling 3 times on offense and throwing a couple of picks against our defense twice this year.

I think we are all agreeing here that Qunicy Carter is not that much of a QB and to make light of this situation I have been looking for a way to get him off of my Cowboy squad. Good things come to those who wait.

Wow, so Cowboy fans, so whw do you like better? 50 year old Vinny throwing 4 picks a game or some kid named Henson who hasnt played football in 50 years.

Get real idiots.

Going exactly opposite direction

He was not the answer , we all knew this...Dallas will be better without the guy...He is at best a CFL 'Slash' type

He wasn't even that good @ Georgia

How does anyone know Henson will be worth a damn? Dallas should try to get Kitna...
