Advance Auto Parts has one for $228, another for $398. Both are manufacturer rebuilds with a $60 - $75 core charge, refundable of course.

call around to your local junkyards, if they don't have it, ask who will. Don't wait around if they say they are going to put it on the hotline. If they have it, ask them if they wll put in on, if not who will. $200 max installed

good luck $642 seems very high. that's about 10% the value of your car for a distributor.

Bigbet,

I am having sme auto issues and the lack of care and concern can be heard in the voices of mechanics I talk to. Big shortage of them here so they do as they please and they are in no hurry. Prices are crazy, but i guess i could have been a mechanic. Maybe im just jealous.

The DIAGNOSE ENGINE is the real scam here.

Ninety bones for hooking up your electrical system to the Magic Mojo Machine which gives them an instant readout on where your engine is out of balance.

Then they charge you for the Repair as well.

If it took them three hours (at 66 per hour) to replace a distributor, they suck ass.

Most places charge for an Engine Diagnostic, but then remove the charge if you pay their normal rate for doing needed repairs.

Glad you're up and running again. But I would suggest starting NOW to inquire among local friends and contacts where a more reasonably priced auto service is, and then in future, you can proceed with more confidence.
