To all the chefs out there...what is the diff. between baking and broiling?

I was told to broil something. I am not sure what to do.

IS....

broiling means you are cooking with your broiler....meaning only from the top of the over.....

Your broiler is the top burners on your oven, and therefore food mainly cooks from the top....good way to make chops, steaks, garlic toast, etc...

baking means you are cooking with all around heat, like cookies, pizzas, etc..

If using your broiler, be sure and leave the oven door ajar just a little....

Broiling is done in an oven or outdoor grill. Cook the meat until it is browned on one side. Then broil the other side to the desired doneness. Set oven to broil, which is very hot, so watch closely.
