He's the oldest non-pitcher to play in the majors since 1934. Unbelievable. And he's still hitting the crap out of the ball.

very underrated career IMO...Franco has over 3000 lifetime hits if you add his Japan years...A lifetime .300 hitter who stole a lot bases way back when...He may be back for 2005 even!

it is crazy. .i am 30 and one of my child hood idols still is playing. unreal. i absolutely love his stance how he holds the bat almost level to the ground. very unorthodox. he got into it a lot sooner when he was younger though. . .

Franco signed his first MLB contract in 1978 Phi.

Just amazing how long ago he came up , it was like 3 baseball era's ago...he always could hit, always a tough out.

What's all this nonsense, which I also heard on ESPN, about Franco "being the oldest non-pitcher..."

Minnie Minoso was a non-pitcher...two at-bats for White Sox in 1980 at age 57.

Yes, one of many White Sox gimmicks back then. This particular one was to allow Minoso to play in 5 different decades. He actually got a hit in one of his at-bats and was subsequently pinch-run for.

I remember a couples of years ago when nobody wanted to sign him, he looked in incredible shape and was tearing up the Mexican League that the Braves took a chance on him, so far so good!!

That was a long single at best! Ricky Ledee sux, ran the wrong route to cut that ball off, not only swinging on ball 4 two times in a row and having cruz thrown out at second! LEDEE SUX.
