What are some good rules of thumb of things to do or not to do in wagering the NFL? Buying points, key numbers, etc....

Thanks

1.Just because it is opening day, or Monday Night Football, or Thursday night, don't get that "itch" to place a bet if you don't have a clear hunch on a play. Remember the old Chinese wiseman: "Confusious says: he who go to bed with itchy butt wakes up with smelly fingah"

2.For totals, look hard at why a game may go UNDER the total. The bookies realize a lot of players lean toward the overs (and their favorite public teams for that matter) and stack the odds against it accordingly.

3.If you're on the west coast, do most of your late information handicapping before you go to bed/get too wasted. Kickoffs for college at 9 Am , 10AM on Sundays can catch you with your penis in hand.

4. 3 Point lines are very important. Consider strength of kicking games and special teams when making your decisions.

Never bet a game because it's on TV, we all do it; try not too.

Week one is usually one of, if not the most competitive week of the season. New season, new teams, new hopes, they all are tough in week one........

May add a little more later, but here are a couple that come to mind quickly

1. Be very careful before you decide to bet on road favorites, particularly in divisional match-ups, and high profile games.

2. Be careful of sandwich games before you decide to bet on the stronger team and likely the favorite against a mid-pack team or a cellar dweller.

Remember, on any given Sunday.........

Don't ever pay attention to anything posted on a ego driven sports gambling forum.

Most of the posters here are simply "full of shit."

and always remember ...

If you like the dog bet the ML, if you like the fave don't worry about the points.

If you can pick the SU winner you will cash about 81% of the time. So aways best to have those extra odds with the dog on the ML than have them plus (usually) meaningless points at -107/110.

if EVERYONE is on one side of a game - either play the other side or pass on the game entirely.

One of my biggest yet most obvious and simple rules is never bet a team that is favored by more than 2 TD's (in the NFL). Rule number 2 would be to always bet the dog if you are getting 2 TD's or more!

Never make a bet without running it by at least one guy who does this for a living.
