care to comment, ill start off with a few.

1. Johnny Vandemeer's (Back to Back NO Hitters), this record cannot be broken, think about it,, it takes 3 in a row to break it, 2 only would tie... This is a good record or feat to look at because it doesnt matter what time frame that it was in..
2. Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak, this is my personal favorite record and i dont think it gets beat (maybe not approached).. Rose at 44 was still 12 away... this record also doenst matter about the time frame.. Dimaggio then went on to hit in another 25 straight after this record was broken,, so he hit in 71 of 72 games..
3. Cy Young career wins,, this record should not be counted on my list because its highly catered to the era that it was in.. 512 will not be broken, when we barely get to 300 now days..

would also like you to look at most doubles in a season, the HR record fell many times before the doubles record has.

Strikeouts by Ryan also is safe, both season and career..

Dont you just love Dimaggio's hit streak, the best record in baseball, (easily).. Heard a couple of guys talking about people out in Montana-- when this streak was going on.. all they would have to say is "did he get one today" and you knew what they were talking about..

Gagne's record will not get the recognition it deserves...

many records look unbreakable...Cy Young's wins total cannot be equalled ...most impressive Joe D, the thing that makes the 56 even harder, it must be done in one season....

Was it Jack Chesbro (I believe) who had a 40 win season lol, I will have to look that up...that won't be touched either!

Ripken's streak won't be touched either...

Cy Youngs record easily.

Next may be Rogers Hornsby .424 avg in a season.

Bonds OB% of .620 right now will be very tough also.

Innings pitched - 7356 Cy Young - thats over 800 complete games. Like his 511 wins, untouchable in this era. Might as well throw in Young's 316 losses, another unbreakable record.

wilheim, after cy young's records, what do you consider the most unbreakable.. his records are not relateable to todays game..

what about the single season doubles record, it goes unnoticed and has stood a long time..

Heres one...

I doubt you will ever see a single player out HR a full team in a single season like Babe Ruth did.

absolutely nuts!

Remember when .400 was the benchmark ...

Bonds 55% better than the benchmark of an excellent on base %!

Jman, Bonds is very comparable about doing some things that Babe Ruth did.. im talking about amazing feats -- that he did against the other players of his era.. These 2 really stand out on the alltime list.. Im really considering rating Bonds #2, and thats a great compliment to Barry..

SSI - most of the hitting records are approachable with the possible exception of Dimaggio's (one never knows though). Cy Young's records are no longer meaningful because of the way the game is played today. I am not taking anything away from him, it's just a different game today.

Cy Young lifetime:

Games w L ERA
Career 7356 511-313* 2.63
World Series 34 2-1 1.59

wil.

* some books say 316.

Wasn't it the Cardinals of the mid late 80's, who were out homered as well??

I may have to look, but I believe they had some extremely low HR team totals...Minus Jack Clark especially

Jman/Wil comment on the alltime doubles record, i find it amazing -- how long it has lasted.. isnt it 67 or 68 in a season..
