during the game yesterday, kent merker called the wgn broadcast booth complaining about the announcers giving roy oswalt too much credit for pitching well.

DURING THE GAME!

1) what the hell are the cubs players doing watching the wgn cubs broadcast in the dugout?

2) how does anyone on the team have the time to call the booth during a game?

3) why would any cub player care what the announcer says during a broadcast?

this is absolutley unbelieveable to me. these guys are amazing.

the cubs reporter (a cub fan by the way) also said this wasn't the first time this year that a player has called the booth to complain about the broadcast...DURING A GAME.

Good Lord, imagine if they actually said how bad the over rated Kerry Wood was pitching. Could have had a couple of Cubbies invade the booth to complain!!!

Shocking that the Cubs announcers noticed the other team. Usually they are just cheering for the Cubs all night.

That would be the radio team of Pat Hughes and Ron Santo. The tv announcers (Chip Carey and Steve Stone - mainly Stone) have taken many hits by the Cubs - led by Alou and Baker. The team probably wants them to say that Farnsworth is really a good pitcher.

Unfortunate that Chicago has the 3 worst announcers in baseball - Santo, Hawk Harrelson and Darren Jackson

Apparently you guys haven't heard a game on the Yank Jazeera network with Michael Kay and his pom poms or on Yankees radio with John Sterling.

i feel pretty good about it. i don't know about a "lock" as it is still possible they could go on a run. they can go 21-11 and still be under the total wins but, they are playing some weak teams until the final series against atlanta.

i have had a really nice run in preseason football which has erased by baseball losses and added about $700 in profit. so, yes i am feeling better.

hope you're doing well also.

Good to hear, Blue. To hell with that K-Mart part-time job. Good luck this fb season. I'm starting to get excited, and like everyone in preseason, am expecting good things. We'll see.

John sterling also hits listeners with "It IS HIGH ITS FAR IT IS GONE!!!!" and then he follows that with "derek jeter with a lined shot over the left field wall."

What do the Cubs want the announcers to say ? That Oswalt sucks and the Cubs still cant hit him ?

It would seem to be more of an insult to the Cubs if Oswalt is shutting them out and the announcer says something like this Oswalt guy is horrible, and he is still shutting out this lineup.

the point is...what the hell do the cubs care what the announcers are saying? and, how the hell do they have the time to complain about it DURING A GAME???

to me, it just shows that they are clearly not focused on the right things. they are not a championship-caliber team. champions don't care about that crap...they just win.

The guy made a phone call. Every team has players who do things like this.

Rasheed Wallace has done things, the Pistons still won.

Kobe and Shaq had issues and they won 3 straight.

No team is perfect. No team has 100% players who never do anything questionable.

I think its hard to say the Cubs entire team isn't focused because a pitcher got bored and made a phone call.

Right now, they are tied for the wild card lead despite having several injuries this year. If they make the playoffs which they likely will this team will be a very serious contender and everyone will be back on the same bandwagon they were on last year.

this wasn't the first time a player has made a phone call DURING A GAME. as moronic as rasheed wallace is, do you think he would go over and complain, during a game, about what an announcer said about his team?

alou and todd walker have publicly critized the announcers as well. i am not saying the announcers don't deserve it, i am saying why do they care?

it just shows that they aren't focused, are immature and have thin skin. they may make the playoffs despite all that but, i kinda doubt it.

with the talent on this team, they should be right up there with st. louis and they are fighting for their lives. were injuries a factor...yes. but so are things like alou getting tossed out of a tight game for arguing balls and strikes...from an at bat that happened two innings prior. dusty baker time and again making bone-head moves that cost the cubs. sosa and patterson striking out with guys on 3rd base and 1 out all the time. these are all factors.

my point is, when a team that is clearly underachiving (whatever the reason) complains about what the announcers are saying, it makes them look really, really bad.
