that have no clue what a pointspread is.......and if they did............would have 50x more enjoyment betting the games rather than fooling around with a childish fantasy game.

Now Fish, with a pretty obvious stat that 90% plus of gamblers lose money, how are they not smarter than most of us?

i play fantasy football (and do i have a stacked team in 1 league) and the fact i know the spread helps me a lot in choosing who to start.

the team i drafted sunday is:

We had the #5 picka nd took Portis, Santana Moss, Chris Brown, Pennington, Andre Johnson (we knew we could have taken Chambers at Pennington’s spot – then we knew Pennington would be there @ #5, but we took Chad @ #4 anyway), Boo Williams, Larry Fitz, Willis McGahee, Eagles D, Josh McCown (we need him when
Chad has a BYE), Bettis (we need him 1 week – and he was the best RB out there at the time), Steelers D, Janikowki (everyone took a kicker by Round 10 so we waited until this round figuring NO ONE would take a backup kicker until the last 2 of 16 rounds – but we were floored when 2 teams above us in Round 13 of 16
took backup kickers, one of them being Kodiak – how dumb is that!), Billy Miller, Roethlisberger (we have to draft 3 QBs –but only play 1 – so this truly is a pick that we hope will never play for us – although if he does – not a bad pick) then Kris Brown.

WINKY is a professional fantasy player as I learned at the bash.

I have no problem with these types of individuals.

I get upset at the amatuer fantasy player that does not place a wager on a football game.

I have real issues with these people.

I am a strong supporter of gambling!

How do you know that these so called amatuers may have just given up gambling after losing a ton and now play fantasy for their fix. You have no problem with Winky being a professional fantasy player but surely you realize that he didn't start out as a professional.

I bet your alter ego "Minnesota Fatty" likes fantasy sports.

The facts are that a large percentage of the population are very naive when it comes to sportsbetting.

I am not talking about the ability to win, but simply how to place a wager.

This should be something drilled into every elementary student by the age of twelve.

They should all know the basics of such things as moneylines, parlays, teasers, etc., etc.

The American public is highly uneducated in HOW to place wagers.

I see it everyday at my various watering holes.

I have been playing fantasy sports for 3 years, and I will admit that I am getting pretty sick of playing.

even with money involved it isnt the same thrill as betting a side.

however I think this is a much better hobby for the majority of people out there becuase it is free.

the exception would be if you can get into an office pool.

i wouldnt want anyone to choose betting games at a sportsbook over playing fantasy sports.

gambling is a losing proposition most of the time. only a few % make money, and it takes a special kind of person and also a special kind of person armed with the right knowledge and resources.

i've been in a league since 1990 - and of the 14 teams in it - there is a core group of about 7-9 that have been in it ever year - or maybe starting year 2 or 3. i LOVE this league because of the camaraderie we have built up over the years. fantasy football isn't so much about the money (well - partly it is - but we don't charge THAT much - so the amount won won't pay a mortgage or anything like that) but for the smack talk during the year and all the banter. the only time i speak to some of these people is during fantasy football season. they are great guys and i love this close-knit thing we have for about 4 months. i'd do this league for no money just to be a part of the group s for me - the money isn't improtant - it is the bragging rights that go to the team that wins it all. we won it 2 years ago (2002) after a 6 year drought and i was happier than i was a few days later when i got to open my Xmas gifts.

So what do you propose for our uneducated youths. Why dont we start educating them in the 3rd or 4th grade. We can teach them how to place a wager on round robin parlays and reverses, but of course to get this done we need to scratch that useless course on sex education or History. I mean lets be honest it is more important that they know how to wager. Who cares if they use their milk money on a scratch of lottery ticket as long as they know the proper lingo.

Is that what your proposing to get the word out to our uneducated youth? For such a seasoned and accomplished gambler what watering holes are you hanging out at?

If you guys are so gung-ho about cameraderie and getting the kids involved. Why don't you peel yourselves away from the computer and go volunteer to coach some pee-wee football or little league. Don't forget your cellphones or sports pagers; just tell the kids that coach has to go make an important phone call before 7:05.

I am envious of people oblivious to gambling.. and very envious of those who can watch football without money on it.

Fish,
why don't you just let these people do what they want instead of judging them.
Not everyone chooses to gamble and they participate for their enjoyment.
Maybe they have the same opinion of you.
