He's the only TV announcer that caught the official's error on the KC field goal at the end of the half.

I cant believe what a great job he is doing.

It is like he has been reincarnated.

He was completely out of it a couple years ago.

I am amazed.

Didn't he call the previously unheard of (by me anyway) "untimed play" also after the Denver penalty on the last play of the half?

I don't know. The three stooges spend all first half praising the incompetent Gunther Cunningham, meanwhile his defense is leaking every bit as much as last year. What is this great improvement Theisman keeps crowing about? He used to tell us ad nauseum what a great coach Sam "clueless" Wyche was too. And if Bernie Kook-R isn't the worst zebra in pro sports, I don't know what.

hes only back until the other guy recovers from heart surgery though, right? i mean he (summerall) is ok and all but his voice isnt as strong and powerful as it used to be.

you know when your grandpa wants to tell you a childhood story about walking to school uphill both ways and he needs to take a deep breath every 5 words that is what listening to pat summerall is like.

the other guy is the voice of sunday night football, the best football product going.

he did - up until last year - and that was his last year with them. if he was still under contract with FOX there is NO WAY he'd be working for esn.

honestly - he has lost it - and you watch the game in spite of him.

Don't think Summerall has lost it at all. Its too bad his succinctness had to go. A master of witty brevity and sparse comments, IMO Summerall was the best ever and is still head and shoulders above most.

Summerall is an interesting character. He played pro baseball briefly in the Cardinals organization after a football career at the University of Arkansas where he received a master's degree in Russian history. That being after he was the Florida state tennis champion in 1946.

A field goal kicker and tight end in the NFL for the Chicago Cardinals and the NY Giants, Summerall scored 567 career points on 101 FG's, 258 TD coversions and 1 touchdown. He scored 5 pts in the legendary 1958 loss to the Baltimore Colts which is known as the "greatest game ever played" and birthed the NFL as we know it now.

Won't argue that his effectiness went down hill as his alcohol addiction almost killed him. But now off the juice, he is IMO almost as good as ever. Not quite as sharp but as witty as ever.

To those who are praising Summerall...What are you thinking? When I turned on to watch the game last night and first heard his voice I contemplated whether I could listen to this man for the duration of the game. There are so many flaws in his broadcasting it is unreal how a major network will put him back on. He never knows the name of the reciever who caught the ball ("I believe it was ______, where he is usually wrong), speaks meaningless banter when he does speak, and is literally minutes behind the play. There was no fluidity to the broadcast last night, mainly due to Summerall.

This guy had his time, please give someone else a chance.

He was terrible last night. Just b/c he wasn't chugging a bottle of Listerine doesn't mean he knew what he was talking about. he mixed up people's names a minimum of 5 times.
