When the first batter of an inning reaches first base, how often (what% of the time) does he score?

Well it depends on whether he reached on a walk, hit or an error.

If the batter reaches via a walk in the American League, then he will score 60% of the time. In the National League, it is about 50% for a walk. Reaching base by a single is about 45% in the Amercain League and around 35% in teh National League.

Errors will give you a slightly lower %.

Walks have a MUCH higher % since that would indicate that the pitcher is wild at the moment

The only reason why I feel that my answers are VERY CLOSE as in within 5-7% points is because i have heard this mentioned on NUMEROUS occasions, ESP with teh American League walk. I KNOW that it is over 50%

Sounds a bit high.

I think it's higher than what you guys are saying. Overall, including walks, hits and errors for both leagues I would say it is around 58%.

I think the "EV" of a runner on first is about 0.51. If a batter were walked, there is a moderate chance it was intentional, and other batters were already in scoring position. Under an intentional walk situation, teams are in "double-play defense", which increases the batting average of subsequent batters. Playersonly69's assertion that walked batters score more often is correct, but for a different reason.
