Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Green Bay Packers cornerback Mike McKenzie will most likely end his lengthy holdout soon and join his teammates in preparation for Week 2.
McKenzie, who missed all of training camp and Monday night's win over the Carolina Panthers, is expected to meet with Packers general manager and head coach Mike Sherman at Lambeau Field on Wednesday.
"All I know is that I'm meeting with Mike tomorrow at 8 o'clock," Sherman said on Tuesday. Sherman also noted that McKenzie's potential on-field availability versus division-rival Chicago this Sunday is unknown.
McKenzie, a sixth-year defensive back from Memphis, has expressed displeasure with his current contract and did not participate in any of the team's offseason programs. He signed a contract extension on January 7, 2002 through the 2006 campaign.
McKenzie has started at left cornerback all five years he has been in Green Bay. Last season he posted 58 tackles (55 solo), four interceptions and 20 passes defensed.
In 69 career games (67 starts), McKenzie has notched 291 tackles (246 solo), 82 passes defensed, 15 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, one sack and one fumble recovery.
