I have lost about $600 in the past few days at Party Poker....does this mean I suck at Hold 'em or is it rigged so no one wins? I mean can't some of these "players" be the computer?

Hey Sherman

I have always lost also. The hands don't seem realistic to me. With the rake off they end up with all the money!! Play the cheap tournys at Poker Stars. You can play for a few $$ and have fun.

it probably does mean that.
party the fishiest of all the poker sites. I am a winner there as I am sure are others on this site. Practice your game at lower stakes. Read a few books, follow a few online forums.gl

sherman, what is your name on party Poker? my database has pretty much every hand ive played in the last 4 months, which is around 50000 hands, so if i have played wiht you much, I can take a look at your stats and see if you are calling too much, not raising enough, whatever? you ought to get pokertracker.com, as well as read some books.

It isnt rigged so no one wins and the rake is super cheap.

Compared to almost every live game I know of it is cheap, but I agree "super" cheap isn't how I would describe it.

Of course online rake is cheaper then Live due to the fact that they can rake out to the exact CENT. Where as live games are raked up to nearest dollar...you can see $3-$4 raked out in a 15-30 game heads up ...

not rigged...I would say sherman you just need some patience Sir,

Play only hafway decent cards and you will at least last longer . I have found there are alot of just gamblers playing poker with no skill at the online places I do not do to bad..but for small stakes

Sherman-

It is possible it is a bad run of cards.

Do you win when you play live at a casino or local card room (games with your buddies don't count)?

Do you win at other online card rooms?

Prior to playing at PP, I have played Hold em 3 times before with some guys from a former job...I won 2nd, 1st and 2nd. That sums up my experince.

Sherman-

After having so little experience live and online why would you even suggest that it is possible that you could have been cheated or that you suck? The fact that you mentioned that the players could be computers after your question leads me to believe that you were surprised that you lost and think that the site are "rigged."

All-

Sherman may be good example of some of the people who scream "I've been cheated." At least Sherman admits to lack of experience that we can look at and say "too little data upon which to come to a conclusion."

I didnt mean to suggest it could be rigged because I lost, but the thought that it could easily be rigged crossed my mind. I have very little experience playing but I did finsih in the top 2 all three times I played which I guess gave me a false sense of being good....I want to practice more on PP, on the play money side but dont people play ALOT different when real money isnt at stake?

party is not rigged against anyone. I have been playing for close to a year now and have had my fair share of big beats and the big stakes tables but if you play smart you will win money in the long run. I am not an expert but since the level of play is so poor at party you dont need to be an expert to win.

It probably means you suck. But Michael Jordan sucked at basketball at one time, and Fish and Fezzik probably sucked when they first started betting on games. Gotta practice to be any good at anything. Poker is no different.

At the lower limit tables, you should be able to have player notes on at least 2 players saying they suck. It is an old cliche, but if you cannot quickly identify obvious losers at limit games, then you are probably a huge loser.

The play is so terrible it is beyond mind numbing.

Sherman-

The real money tables at Party are very different from the play money tables from what I hear and based on intution.

Based on your statements, there are all sorts of potential holes in your expectations about being good.

1) When you say that you "finished" in the top 2 three times that you played, does that mean you played in tournaments? Were the games you played at Party structured the same way as your previous games? If not, then basing your Party success, or lack there of, on your experience in exactly 3 Hold 'Em games would not seem like a good idea.

2) Unless the guys from your old job are very good, I would refrain from using them to assess your skill level.

3) You played Hold 'Em three times before going to Party. Why do you think you had enough experience to even set an expectation level? You may be a world class player or you may suck. My point here is that you have not played enough Hold 'Em anywhere to have an expectation level or make assessments/comments regarding a site or your abilities.

In everything in life you need data to support your conclusions and to set your expectations, poker is no different.

Play a few thousand hands with people you don't know and at that point you can probably better analyze your skill level and determine whether the games you are playing are being cheated.

Online poker can be cheated but my guess is that the average player will experience little if any cheating given the number and sizes of games available.

Good luck and don't spend too much time at the play money tables. If you beat those guys you might think you are a world class player.
