The sad thing is no one can say for sure. Sounds like unsubstantiated rumors to me, but the moment you say something like that and something does in fact go wrong then you get ripped. So people that might think things are ok, but not 100% sure, won't make a positive comment. Then the people that don't see those comments assume the worst and start making the "broke" calls. And notice most of these people haven't a clue and never will when it comes to the finances of a book.
Some time ago (being deliberately vague) a book I have done a little bit of work for was supposedly in trouble, according to a poster here. He was backed by others for some unknown reason. I knew it was far from the truth having seen some numbers mere days before this rumor started, but having confidentiality issues I didn't say a thing. No one came to their rescue and the implied threat hung around for a little bit before quietly passing, but still it seemed unsettling to me that people with uncertain and unknown motives would try this.
Unfortunately I don't have a clue about it and it is disappointing that we all can't know one way or the other, but just warning you that these things often take on a life of their own. BG may or may not be in trouble, I couldn't say. But just take the words you might hear from both sides with an eye of suspicion.
