does anyone know a site where i can download some sports data (nfl, nba)? To be more specific boxscore results for the past 2-3 yrs in a text or spreadsheet format for loading into a database?

i am a programmer and recreational gambler interested in developing an application to calculate some totals... thanks...

I would start with computer sports world

Check out their site, but you might want to send them an e-mail with your specific requests.

It won't be free.

The Fiest Site had old lines, scores, and boxscore data, but converting it to database or excel usability would be a HUGE data cleaning project.

Most programs that uses boxscore data would probably also require starting line-up data, which is a whole other ballgame.

CSW is well worth the price for any serious handicapper. The site is packed with information in their statistical files that come with the Bronze package ($15 a month)..

thank you all for the info...
newbie666, my development skills are more on the java side and never really looked into web data mining... i was thinking more long the lines of loading the data into a mysql database and developing some logic to calculate games... perhaps a site with an xml feed of game results/lines?
but i will look into your suggestion...
thanks again.

hi lander,

i've done some client-server apps in the past i guess what im loooking for is a link or site where i can get this data. A good RSS feed for a custom desktop app to show lines and moves and stored results from 2-3 yrs back to present day.

I did find a wealth of info when i googled the topic
http://www.sportsinteraction.com/sportsbook/rss/index.cfm
http://www.donbest.com/archives2.htm
im sure this has probably been discussed thoroughly on this forum... just thought i might be able to get some general direction on where to search...
