There are some guys here in Town that have murdered the Ontario & Quebec Sports lotteries.... They have had such an impact that the government has implemented a rule that no more than 100$ can be bet at any one corner store at a time....

The basic ODDS structure is terrible & the odds are heavily against the bettor.

But the odds do not move..... they are stagnant... I think this is how the guys in town manages to beat them consistently....

You cannot bet on games straight up, only Parlays mostly with reduced Payouts....

QUEBEC:

I dont ususally look at them too much... especially due to the low payouts... but am starting to wonder wether I should take a closer look...

I have access to play either of these at any corner store....

I have played both provinces' versions, SS, quite extensively, but like you said, the payouts are sooo freakin' low. It's hardly worthwhile.

I sometimes wonder if those stories of guys making an killing on them are nothing more than urban legends, quite possibly started by no less than the lottery corporations themselves, to add mystique and excitement.

I find playing their totals can give us an edge: they are very sloppy with bases. It is not unusal to find a line of 9.5 that is an 8 in Vegas and offshore. Plus the favourites are heavily weighted on these lotteries, so if you're a dog player ...

Today I've played a number of baseball ties (a tie is a game decided by one run or any game that goes into extra innings) as there are some potentially close
ones tonight (last night the Oak and LA gan=mes went that way).

But at the end of the day, nailing 3-game parlays is a losing proposition.

Best wishes,
Three Units

Some years ago the BC Lottery got hit by wise guys betting over on pre-season NBA games, while the line was set for regular season play when the defence shows up. Instead of the "normal" 60% payback they were "gasp" losing money.

And remember when they first introduced Soccer to the betting options.

A few years back now, when they first introduced soccer they were behind the 8-ball. They had no idea that sometimes game times were moved. Well in this instance they were moved a few hours ahead of schedule, so some smart players who had just finished watching the games, noticed they were still available on the proline game sheet.

After word got around, players started pounding these games. 3,4,5,6 teams parlays. The OLGC finally figured out why for some reason these games were getting significant $$$'s and suspended betting on the games. As a result of this, soccer was eliminated from the betting options for a few years.

And by the way .. all tickets were cashed.

They cosistently *CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR* up on proline. If they get hit they make a new rule to tighten it up. 6 ties went down to 4 max. No more than a $100 at any given location Basketball ties went from 6 points to 5 and the complete removal of the NBA. I must say that I LOVE their early lines that don't move for college bsaketball, I hit them almost daily if the line discrepency is enough. Can usually find a 3 point difference on 5 or more games in the fall.

I remember the guy who cleaned up in the Nova scotia sports lottery about 10 years ago.

The lines for exhibition games were set as if they were regular season games, so the bulls would be laying 14 in an exhibition game in the lottery even though Jordan/Pippen etc might only play a quarter of the game.

This guy seized the opportunity and made several million. He would take all the big dogs and build parlays around them.

I had the article but can't find it on the web anymore.

They certainly do make mistakes. Today they had Santana and Minnesota as a 2.30 underdog when in the real world they were the faves.

It turned out that NYY won anyway, but this is the kind of bad lines that Pancho, Newton and others are talking about.

SS, the Leblanc brothers (guys that pancho is referring to) made millions off the provincial lotteries back in the days when NHL dogs/ties paid 5.00 to 7.00. A few years back the CBC had a story about them and showed one of them driving around to different stores to buy his tickets. They also won a few million in Australia after a protracted lawsuit after they exploited an inefficiency in the way their horse racing was done (don't recall the exact details but I will try to find the article)
