I know a lot of people keep a lot of money in offshore accounts, does anyone think about what happens to your money if you get hit by a bus? Do you guys tell your wives your accounts and passwords? Do sportsbooks send you a check if you don't play after a while? :drink:

I use to have a hidden paper with my accts and passwords if I had a large amt at one book...this paper would only be found if i croaked....and it would explain how to request the money...its a good idea I think...its not like a book is ever going to call and ask if you want your money.

stomie, if your wife sends in some sort of proof that you died, a book will probably send back the funds left in the account, other than that, the book would keep the money for eternity.

I've got a deal with a buddy of mine in which we both know where the other keeps his passwords and both our wives know that we will salvage each other's funds and distribute it according to his wishes if one of us dies.

It's funny that we trust each other more than our own wives, but unfortunately that's the way it is.

When I die, I have requested that my gambling money be used to start a kick-hypocryite-Jim-Leach-the-fuk-out-of-Office campaign :finger:

Actually, from my understanding, if you die you will not care what happens to your offshore funds. Anyone who cares now ought to make the appropriate arrangements.

VVV,
I thought you had arrangements to use your offshore funds for a "going away party" at your regular joing - Lucky Changs ;)

1) The wife discovers your gambling problem and how much money you've pissed away over the years.
2) She finds your passwords, withdraws the remaining money, and disappears.
3) You end up buried in a cardboard box at a local pet cemetery.

It's an interesting thought ! Something like tourists to Vegas, taking home chips, never to be cashed. It's money loaned for free. Casinos shouldn't need new chips too often, but they appear. The USPS loves people that collect stamps, and hold them forever, as does the US mint.

Even better for offshores. John Doe dies, no trace of funds. Jane doesn't get the money. Even happens in USA, inactive bank accounts seized by states, 7 years I think. I brought this up with one of my banks. I have a tenant ( long-term). I hold a security deposit at a local bank. I make no transactions on account, eventually the state will take it. The solution is to update the book every so often, or depisit like $.01.

I'm sure books have profited by this, and will even more so in the future. The guy that hides it from the wife, or has no family is a prime example. In fact I've heard of books claiming the balance, after a peroid of inactivity.

Doug I think Millennium did that to a poster here before, seize or zero out his account after a period of inactivity. I think it was a year or so and the poster was Chuck Sims if I recall. Correct me if I'm wrong. Scary precedent if you ask me but this topic is definitely food for thought.

Millennium

Millennuim will steal your money if you die. Hell, they stole my money and I am still alive. Left my account inactive for a little over a year. Millennium deleted all my personal info and kept my money. The money was less than $200.
