I know George is the principal owner but not what exact percentage he owns. He has a son Hal who owns Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Silver Charm who may be in line to inherit the Yanks. One-time associate and part Yankee owner John McMullen, (who later owned the Astros), said, "Nothing is more limited than being a limited partner of George's."

I have read that it is exactly 51%. Believe I have seen that number more than once, but I don't know it for a fact.

He owns a majority and similar to what the other poster said, I've heard from a minority owner that he and the other minority owners have virtually no say in how the team is run.

Here's the worst part about it...many of them call George, "Mr. Steinbrenner" to his face and even when speaking to friends and/or family. Can you imagine calling a business partner "Mr." [fill in the blank] in this day and age....puuullllease!!
