LIARS POKER-- Gambling at its absolute best!

Forget HOLD EM Poker, and for that matter every other type of gambling.

LIARS POKER to me is the absolute most entertaining gambling game I have ever encountered.

Nothing tops it for me............NOTHING!

The rules...................

Each player takes out a random (US) bank note.
Players agree on a stake.
In turn each player "bids" by attempting to guess a combination of numbers (for example "three nines") that is found SCATTERED among ALL of the serial numbers of ALL players.
Each player must make a "larger" bid (a bid that involves more numbers OR the same amount but with higher number) than the previous player or issue a challenge.

Once EVERYONE agrees to challenge, the notes are revealed. If the last bid is correct than the player who made the bid takes the stake. If not the player has to pay out the stake to ALL the other players.(one can take a substantial hit if they are challenged and lose).

The bluffing(lying) by players in this game can be done in a variety of different ways and makes bluffing in Holdem look like childs play.

In the above example, say for instance you have 10 players playing with $5 bills($50 stake).

Please note, you can make the STAKE for any desired amount, but it usually whatever the bills being used totaled up is.

If the individual challenged does not meet the BID he stated, he must pay $5 to EVERY player..............if he wins, he collects $5 himself from every player.

WHAT A GREAT GAME!

We played it years ago back home but you're leaving out one key ingredient... all bills are put in a pile and then each person draws one out... I knew people that used to look for bill with a lot of 1's or 0's on them and carried them around just for playing liar's poker with. Hard to outbid 8 Aces in a three handed game...

Yes, it is a must to get a stack of 200-300 FRESH $1 bills and play with those.

Most bars have an abundance of $1 bills and you can usually scrape up enough to have quite a few games with 5-6 players.

Bills with numbers can be purchased also. Variations of rules exist. It's just an old bar-game, very old ! No real money at this game. This is basically BS.:finger:

One can make the STAKE for whatever they desire..........and believe me, the better players get the money more times than not.:heh:

Please note- I didnt say it was necessarily the best game to make money, just overall the most entertaining form of gambling that I know of.

I am a LIARS POKER addict and have severe withdrawls when not playing the game on a regular basis.

Yes, no need to mention it, im a sickfuc.

Anyway, great game. I had a group of friends so obsessed with gambling in general and playing this game that I proceeded to make sure I carried a "good" bill or two in every denomination up to $20 just so I was prepared.

Get yourself a bill with 4-5 of a decent number and you are almost guaranteed success.

Swami- I play only with new bills that are shuffled and drawn.

Never play with anybody using their OWN bill..............thats silly.

Great game. Have played hundreds of hours of it. I have played it with computer generated numbers, bills, and dice.

OK Fish: The way you play sounds fair. Just be aware I could keep bills in my pocket with 6 or 7 nines on them, all nice crisp uncirculated. I have to pay a premium, but I can get them, so can others.

I don't see the point in playing this for big money, just play real poker !

I've only seen it played for taking the others bills.

Doug- One uses bills from a neutral source, or just generated sets of numbers as mentioned above.............they do not necessarily have to be from bills themselves.

Fish: that may be the modern way. I encountered this game about 25 years ago. The way it was played back then, was say 7 guys pull a dollar bill out of their wallet, and play, winner takes losers bills.

All games have an origin. In say 1975, or earlier, it wasn't played with computer-generated random numbers. It was probably played back to the 19th century. Paper money didn't exist until about the time of the civil war, a little later actually. Previous to that people used coins with precious metal ( silver,gold), or copper content. In say 1840 there wasn't paper money.

You are right on the money about this game! This is gambling at its finest, especially when played with $20, $50 or $100 per player per hand. Tends to tighten a few assholes when playing for real money. I have enjoyed many hours playing this game. Maybe we can get a game up at the RX BASH next year!!

I sense that you are much older than I am but the way we learned to play the game was someone said "liar's poker for $20", and everyone would take out a $20 and start playing the game.

I actually like your game BETTER....then I know what's on TWO bills...mine and the one I drew, unless you are getting the bills from some source other than the players.

I'm not much of an angle shooter but near the last few times we played this game, the whole crew stacked their wallets/money clips so it was damn near useless. In fact, I think that's what ended the game for us. It became obviously that everyone was "loading" their wallets.

I had a $1 dollar bill with a serial number of 01000000 or 7 tens on it. I kept it for years in my wallet for conversation purposes only, (no way I could claim it was a random bill). I accidentially spent it in a super market one day. In my bartendering days I played the game often and used to keep fresh bills as part of my "bank" on hand.
