It passed the committee 68-0

"Also included in the legislation is a provision that passed the House last year that would bar Internet gambling sites access to the U.S. financial services system by preventing the use of credit cards, wire transfers, or any other bank instruments to fund illegal Internet gaming transactions. The Committee has previously heard testimony from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Internet gambling is vulnerable for use in terrorist financing schemes."

SO if this passes the full senate and house when will it take effect that neteller and other methods stop allowing you to fund your wagering accounts?

I am not sure when this would take effect. But, what I do know is that we NEED to focus on the SENATE...

We need to tell our Senators that it's DISRESPECTFUL and IRRELEVANT. We don't want it added to the 9/11 bill, period...

Please contact your Senators (We each have two) from the link above via phone and/or email. Tell them you are opposed to this legislation (the Internet Gambling funding prohibition language), and that you think it is disrespectful and inappropriate to attach it to a 9/11 bill. And do't forget to mention that you and your friends and family vote even if they don't all call.

Despite the claims of internet gambling being susceptible to terrorist money laundering, these are only theories. They can not point to one incident. On the other hand, there have been numerous incidents of land based casinos actually being used for money laundering.

This is a disgusting abuse of the legislative process to advance the social agenda of a few.

I am a devoted Republican, and a rarity in this society, I VOTE....

I like many other americans DO enjoy gambling with my recreational money, that I EARN....I feel that is my right....I enjoy our local riverboat, which brings alot of money into our state, i enjoy Ellis Park racetrack (although) considered Kentucky owned, i occasionally play the lottery, and i enjoy playing poker online.......

When i heard of the attachment to the 9/11 bill, trying to prohibit all online gambling, and heard it passed 68-0, i was EXTREMELY upset......As an American, i feel i have a right to spend my money as i wish......I do not need the government telling me how to do so.....That is the main reason i consider myself Republican, we tend to believe the individual is better served making their own decisions, rather than the government holding their hand constantly.....

I will be very upset if this bill passes, and the government once again tells me how i can spend MY MONEY.....i am not hurting anyone, i play from my home, and i dont go around breaking the law..........How would i be harming anyone?

I certainly hope you and your counterparts look closer at this, before blindly signing this bill, and the ATTACHMENTS.......

I also think it is a disgrace for this ammendment to be attached to AN IMPORTANT BILL, such as this......There is no proof the 2 things have any link, and it seems as if it is trying to be SNUCK in the vote........

I will be watching closely to see what happens, and hope that MY SENATOR votes for MY interest..........

As to Bayh's response, much like what we have said here for years, it is our risk to send offshore, and we won't be looking to the government to help us if we have a problem, it is our risk....I would rather them worry about the big stuff.....I can handle the offshore gambling part of my life.....

Let them worry about our kids being safe, our schools properly funded, our airlines safe, and our HOME TERRITORY safe.....

I'll handle the runlines, quarter bets, over unders, and whether to call all in with my pockets jacks......

I wonder how such a bill being passed would effect Neteller
since they are Canadian based. Would it be business as
usual between sportsbooks & Neteller?

Would US citizens be able to open foreign bank accounts
and fund their sportsbook accounts through them?

Come to think of it, I really hate these congressmen. How dar ethey sneak this BS act into such an important bill. Even if some agree with this internet gambling prohibition act, they should pass it the right way, not sneak it into a "9/11" bill.

If these congressmen pass this bill as presented, it shows they are truly scumbags.

That amendment includes language that would allow horse racing account-wagering companies to keep accepting such deposits, said Avioli, who spent Wednesday and Thursday in Washington to lobby for the racing language. A similar bill is being worked on in the Senate, and legislators are considering language that would ban sports betting on the Internet, with the exception of horse racing. Both bills are expected to pass before legislators recess on Oct. 8.
